Leira took a sip of wine before replying, "Ah, Venzan wine is much better than what we have in our temple." She looked down for awhile, before continuing having been distracted by something. "I've lived in the temple of Amenthia for the last 14 years, so the most interesting thing was the all the people who came seeking treatment for their injuries and illness. Other than that, it was constant training with the monks." Leira took another longer drink. "The head of the monks sent me here to Venza, because he said I'd be able to find a way to better perfect my skills in real combat, than in endless sparring. So I came here. What about you? What's your story Marla?"

Marla the Barmaid
The barmaid pauses, as if not often asked questions about herself. "Grew up hard, and fast," she starts, "and before the world ate me up, I ended up here. A little while later, Grog, over there," she gestures in the direction of the bar where the hulking half orc converses with another patron of similar descent, "retired from his career as a mercenary. Now he's our barkeep and bouncer. Zitteaux cooks everything that leaves the kitchen, and Trixie sometimes takes shifts on the floor, but has never been one for long hours so people don't see her as much.

"Anyway," Marla continues, shifting gears, "We carry a wine for every taste, limited only by your coin. Some of the veterans like the elven stuff, but when I want to relax, it's a local vineyard for me." Thinking a moment, she adds, "Perhaps it's a good thing you're out seeing the world. A nasty injury shouldn't be the high point of your day, no?"

Leira laughs, "I hope there is more than just setting broken bones, and acting as a midwife. Adventure seems more to my talent. I think I'll take your advice, and stick with the local vineyard wines, over something like an elven wine. Coin is a bit precious after the journey here after all."

"You just let me know if you need another. Help you hone those adventurer skills, and all that, right?" Marla flashes a knowing smile at the end of the second sentence, adding her own particular interest. The, she adds as an afterthought, "Oh, and we have food, too. All cooked by our own chef. It's not bad… usually."

"You know, something to eat isn't a bad idea. Never know how long opportunity might take to knock. Maybe pheasant if you have some? Always been my favorite, but I am a country girl." Leira pauses, and takes another drink of wine. "As long as there is wine and company, it's not so bad." She laughs.

Marla nods, "Well, best policy is dinner first, in my opinion." She walks behind the bar to the kitchen door and opens it, "Zitteaux! Pheasant, country style!" She lets the door swing close as a voice, heavily accented in the style of the far flung baronies, starts barking orders at unseen underlings.

On her way back, Marla swings several customer tables, including Brandon's, "More ale, something to eat? Let me know, the night's still young."

Brandon the Swift

Brandon jolts back to reality as Marla addresses him.

While he missed part of the sentence, he heard enough. He says : "You know what? I'll go for something to eat."

After a bit of thought, he asks : "How about a nice bowl of chicken and vegetable soup with a side of bread?"

"Hey, sleepy-head," the barmaid responds to Brandon in a lightly-teasing tone. "Does sound like you need something to keep your strength up, and we have a wonderful chicken soup I think you'll love." Brushing by him on her way to the kitchen, she yells the order back to the kitchen, followed by more muffled kitchen chatter from Zitteaux.

Stopping by the bar on the way back, Marla looks disapprovingly at Grog. "Grog! Have you even offered this man something to eat, yet?" Her uncharacteristically stern tone demands attention from the entire room as she gestures at Jaggo.

Grog the Bartender
Somewhat chastised by Marla, the big orc-blooded bartender retorts, "He no ask…" There is a pregnant pause as his explanation is met with nothing but a cold stare, and he turns to Jaggo, "Ey. You shud eat some meat. Keep up strength."

Marla sighs, a small smile crossing her face as she picks up the pheasant dish from the window and heads to Leira's table. "Close enough," she quietly muses. Moments later, Leira finds her dinner placed in front of her, the familiar aroma of pheasant wafting upwards.

[section]The door to the in opens, and a young woman enters the bar, staring into space as she clings to the arm of her escort. Her escort, a Venzan man in his 30's, scans the inn for a moment before stepping forward again. Both wear symbology and markings of the Church of Cortesia, although the young woman is more obviously part of the clergy. "This would appear to be the place," he curtly explains.

"We don't have to do this," the priestess replies. "Venza needs me. Just a couple days ago there was another attack in this vermin plague. Stirges, this time. They swarmed and killed one stable-hand and nearly another. It was awful."

Her escort seems unmoved. "The other priests will continue to help here," he counters. "You have been ordered to Tritower, so you're going. I'm sure they have problems of their own, and you'll be quite busy, once there." He falls silent, surveying the inn as the priestess sighs.[/section]

Marla the Barmaid
[section]"You can use the back room if you have hiring needs," Marla comments as she glides by, on her way to deliver a chicken soup to one of the patrons. "Most everyone does it that way, so you don't have to worry about eavesdropping."[/section]

"I see," the man replies, lifting an eyebrow as he looks over the barmaid. As if feeling his gaze, Marla finishes the delivery and shuffles back towards the kitchen without further comment. Clearing his voice, the priestess' escort speaks up, "So, who would like a job? It'll take a couple weeks."

[sblock=Recruting for 'The Road to Tritower', level 1 adventure]Ideally suited for fresh level 1's, just speak to the priestess' escort.[/sblock]

Looking up from her meal as the priestess and her escort approached, Leira blurts out "Oh me! I'd be happy" she swallows her bite of pheasant, "to take you up on a job" she says. She looks expectantly at the two of them, as she happily feasts on her meal.
