Even Newer(er) Tavern Thread: The Hanged Man

DMDanW

First Post
A finely dressed half elf walks into the tavern and looks around at all the patrons, his eyes settling on Martelai. He opens a small black book that he was carrying and flipped a few pages, studied the book for a moment and then looked back at Martelai. A slight smile crept up one side of his mouth and he returned the black book into his coat pocket as he strode over to the table where Martelai was at. Without asking he pulls out a chair and has a seat across form Martelai.

“Greetings, I am Jyles Delaurier. You, correct me if I am mistaken, are none other than Martelai Luinil". He waits only a second for a response and then continues. "Good, then I have a business opportunity which may be of interest to you. If my information is correct you are associated with the Institute of Arcane Ciphers. I require their services." He draws form two sealed envelopes and places them on the table between himself and Martelai.

"The first envelope contains a letter" he begins, "a letter which I wish to learn who was behind the pen. The second envelope contains further instructions and payment arrangements. I was hoping that you could deliver and arrange someone at the IAC to complete said task."

He smiles and leans back into his chair a little, "For you on the other hand I have an additional offer. My employer has hired on a number of you 'adventure types' recently, and well they seem to lack any semblance of socially acceptable behavior. Their task will be to protect a certain asset, and I fear that they may pose as much harm as they do protection. I was hoping that someone a little more refined, someone such as yourself, could accompany them and help them overcome their shortcomings."

He reaches into his pocket and draws forth a small card and places it down on the table as well. "If you are interested in the second part of the offer please make your way to the address on the card and ask for me after you have arranged for the first task to be completed - if you accept of course."

The seal on both envelopes is that of Lord Renthwaite Ogglebottom, a merchant Lord who operates the Extraordinary Emporium of Exotic Exports.
[sblock=Streetwise DC 30]
It is rumored that the rivalries between some of the powerful merchant Lords, Ogglebottom included, has risen to the extent of violent acts being plotted against one another.

[sblock=The Card]
The card simply has an address written on it, one you believe to be up in the inner harbor district somewhere.

[sblock=OOC Neurotic]
Here is the adventure tie in I promised you Neurotic. Hopefully tomorrow I can have a new thread started for Lord Ogglebottoms Odd Tasks II and we can proceed there, but for now you and Jyles are still in the tavern.

[sblock=OOC anyone else]
This is an adventure hook for Martelai whom I recruited earlier. I'd like to offer up more spots but right now my adventure is full and I do have to leave some PC's for the other DMs.

Neurotic

I plan on living forever. Or die trying.
Half eladrin looks up from his reading, regarding new comer with icy calm. As he starts speaking the eyes show a bit of life and interest. He nods at the question of his identity.

"I am the head of Bacarte office of IAC. If you want deep involvement you need to speak with our founder Veruzak Choru'Skate. But if it's just finding the source, I can take care of that."

He looks in the envelope quickly estimating that costs are covered and closes it.

"Tell Mr. Ogglebottom I'll help with the letter. As for escorting some package, how could mountains of muscle make it worse?"
After thinking about it for a moment he comes to the conclusion that 'parcel' isn't something, but someone
"Ah, I see. Well, it wouldn't be first time for me to be involved with socialy inept people. I know how frustrating that can be. I was hoping to catch a friend, but she seems to be off on some errand.

Very well. I'll arrange with Veruzak to get someone on the letter. Meet you on this address in about an hour."

The door of the Hanged Man opens again, and a well dressed human walks in, he is wearing a black jacket with a grey shirt underneath. Long black robes cover him from the waste down. He looks slightly built but nothing exceptional, the most distinguishable feature being his twinkling bright green eyes. He carefully looks around the room before walking up the bar and ordering a drink. He introduces himself as Karma, Karma Palminetti.

As the half-elf hurried out of the tavern he almost ran straight into the robed human who was coming through the door. The man was of average height and appeared to be of average build, although under the long dirty white robes he wore it was difficult to tell. He had short cut dark brown hair, streaks of gray appearing at the temples and sprinkled through. In his hands he bore a staff, although it appeared to be used more to aid in walking than as a weapon.

He took a couple of steps inside and noticing the large bouncer pointing to the sign by the door he cleared his throat. "The name is Xander Kain" he stated, his voice deep and full of strength, more so than one might guess by looking at the man. He made his way over to the bar and with a heavy thud and a sigh sat down. "I'll have three shots of the strongest liquor you have barkeeper" he stated, reaching into a pocket and withdrawing a few coins. As he reached out to place the coins on the bar you can clearly notice a raised tattoo that starts at the top of his knuckles and runs up his sleeve.

It is an elaborate tattoo of a symbol of Maros

[sblock=OOC]
Xander Kain, human (shielding) cleric of Maros almost ready for service. Just wanted to get into the Tavern and start trying out this character. This is my second character, so obviously I'll defer any adventure spots to players with first characters.

After a few minutes of observation;Karma, approaches Xander at the bar, his twinkling green eyes focus on the tattoo for a fleeting second before making eye contact. He stretches out a hand "A man of faith then?" he remarks.

Xander downs his first drink before regarding the man speaking to him. Without looking up he replies "Ya that's one way of putting it", and then downs his second shot. He then looks over to the man and looks him over. "And if I am a man of the faith then what might you be" he asks bluntly.

Karma smiles at the abrupt answer, "I too am a servant of faith". He opens the shifts the top of his jacket revealing a clear holy symbol. It is recognizable as the symbol of Mireva. "Now can I get you a drink?"

OOG: how do you use the hidden popups?

DMDanW

First Post
The pop-ups are actually quite easy.
To start with they are called sblocks.
To create one your first line should look like this; [ sblock=title of sblock ], with the space between the [ and the text removed.
To end the sblock you simple create an end tag, [ /sblock ], again, with the spaces removed.

Hope that helps.
