The ceiling finished, at least for the time being, brax returns to the hole the deathclaw came out of. He tosses one end of the rope to Sou Fetter and lets the other snake down until it reaches the lower floor. Slinging his crossbow over his back, Braz begins to lower himself down the rope, his keen eyes wary for trouble.

Braz stops before descending into the hole, because he notices that the rope did not fall all the way to the bottom. Rather, it's laying in a pile about 5 feet down, seemingly suspended in midair.

The other Constables, ready to proceed, wait expectantly in a queue behind and beside the doughty Dwarf.

"What have you found, Master Dwarf?" asks Brae, noticing his companions hesitation and blank stare into the hole below.

"Treachery, trickery or a trap" replies Braz. He bends down picks up a hand ful of dirt and sprinkles it over the entire area he can reach in the hole, hoping to outline whatever is holding up that rope.

Brae watches Braz' actions for a moment, and then the cleric moves up to the rim of the hole, chanting a prayer to Meda as he does so.

Cast Detect Magic. Brae will scan down the hole with his spell to try to determine presence of magic, school and strength.

Basement of the Polished Staff

The dirt sprinkled by Braz comes to rest at the same point where the rope stopped, but there is no visible reason for that occurrence. Brae detects a strong aura of Evocation magic.
