These humanoids are creatures created out of the wind. They serve as troops for the gods, particularly Vishnu and Rudra, and are often led by one of the demigods of air when they enter battle. Maruts live in the clouds and help created weather for the gods. They are not subject to the will of any but divine beings (i.e. cannot be charmed or enchanted), and they are invisible unless attacking the enemies of the gods. They attack as 16+ HD monsters with their weapons, which are usually broadswords. As wind creatures, they naturally have the ability fo fly.

Originally appeared in Deities and Demigods Cyclopedia (1980).

Not to be confused with the Marut inevitables. We should probably call them "Wind Spirits (Marut)" to avoid confusion.

These should be fairly straightforward.

16 HD Outsider (Air) with invisibility as an at-will SLA?

Use astral deva physical ability scores (Str 22, Dex 18, Con 18, Int 18, Wis 18, Cha 20), but reduce mental stats due to "average" Int?

To make 'em intersting, maybe give 'em Martial Training and possibly fighter bonus feats so they excel at battle?

If anyone has 1e Legends and Lore, let me know if there are any differences.

I'm fine with Wind Spirit as a name.

Lower Intelligence and Charisma and increase the physical stats?

As "footsoldiers of the gods" they'd better be tough, and creatures literally made of wind are probably pretty agile.

Maybe:

Wind Spirit: Str 25, Dex 22, Con 21, Int 14, Wis 18, Cha 17

Don't forget the immunity to enchantment and charm. Since that's a divine gift we might as well expand that to an immunity to all mind-affecting powers.

Let's go with greatsword.

Updated.

Perfect manueverability on flight?

Maruts live in the clouds and help create weather for the gods.

Control weather and/or control winds SLAs?

Skills: 10 at 19 ranks
Intimidate, Knowledge (the planes), Listen, Spot, Tumble...

Feats: 6

Yes to the flight and both SLAs.

Maybe Bluff, Escape Artist, Use Magic Device for 3 of the skills. I'd probably pick from Heal, Move Silently, or Sense Motive for the last 2.

Both are fine.

Control weather and/or control winds SLAs?

I'd go control weather 1/day and control winds at-will.

Since Maruts are also storm deities who wield thunder and lightning as weapons, how about adding 1/day chain lightning and greater shout to the SLAs?

Skills: 10 at 19 ranks
Intimidate, Knowledge (the planes), Listen, Spot, Tumble...

Add Knowledge (nature) since that includes weather and seasons.

Perform (dance) and/or Perform (wind instruments)? B-)

Combat Reflexes, Improved Flyby Attack (B), Greater Weapon Focus (Greatsword), Improved Critical (Greatsword), Power Attack, Weapon Focus (Greatsword), Weapon Specialization (Greatsword) ?

Good suggestions all around. :)

Updated.

Should the sword be magical, or at least (or in addition to) some special material?

Environment: Elemental Plane of Air?

Organization: Solitary, x (2-10), or troop (10-100)

Treasure: None?

Alignment: Always neutral?

Advancement: x
Advance to Large like astral devas?

A wind spirit stands x feet tall and weighs x pounds.

Wind spirits speak Auran and x.
