Hexographer gets a large update

An update was made to Hexographer a few days ago. If you're not familiar with Hexographer, it is a Hex based map creation software. It was originally designed to make maps like the classic Gazetteer maps, but it also pulls off 1st Edition World of Greyhawk style maps and Traveller subsector maps easily. Really, lots of different map styles are easy to pull off. Furthermore, my 4 year old likes to play with it. (Truly!)

Here's a list of what's new:
  • Heavily revised UI. Several large features (Customize hexes, lines/text, hex numbering) that were accessed by the tools menu are now found on tabs behind the main map. Features related to these (like importing/exporting a hex icon settings, custom terrain/features, etc.) were also moved to those tabs. The bottom toolbar was moved to the side to accommodate the next point.
  • A minimap appears at the top left of the Hexographer map editing window. It was updating its view every 10 seconds to match your map, but that ran into memory issues so not it is just a rectangle (matching your view area) within another rectangle (matching the scaled down dimensions of your map). But you can click in the minimap to move the view area or drag it and it moves as you move the map using the scrollbars or panning.
  • One can now set terrain to "GM Only" using the checkbox in the terrain tab/toolbox. This should apply to the terrain and any features in it. This feature helps with exploration style games
  • You can also set terrain to be or not be bound to a hex. Some want this feature so they can automatically crop an icon/image to the hexagon which facilitates map art styles that show a realistic overhead view of the terrain.
  • New jungle mountain and jungle mountains terrain. I never really thought that's possible, but someone requested it, said it does exist and I thought, "well even if its not too common, it could be for a fantasy world.
  • Features for creatures: you can now mark territory contains or is patrolled by elephants, bison, camels, horses, cattle, dragons, lions, t-rexes and brontosauruses. Not every big creature will be added (in the pro version you can add your own) but this gives a good sample. For example, t-rexes can mean any carnivorous dinosaur.
