I think this box will be great. Half of my group is brand new to rpgs as of 2010 and two started with PF. If I'd had this box then the learning curve wouldn't have been quite as steep. Looks like it is packed with stuff.

Certainly looks packed with stuff! Anxious to hear more details as they come out, but I am pretty certain I will be buying a box or two for gifts this holiday season if they get it out in time.

I'm looking forward to trying it out with my kids during the winter holidays.

They will be 10 and 8 at the time.

I really, really like the fact that you'll be able to *create* characters instead of simply being handed a pre-made character. That's one of the things that has been lacking in the D&D intro products for far too long.

I _wish_ that it would be like the old Basic set, where you had BECMI and then AD&D. I'm pretty sure they're not going to do that though.

Which means for me it's of limited use/utility.

If they actually were doing a full-on lighter version (as opposed to a gutted version intended to move you onto the "full game"), I'd be all over this like a platypus with shrimp. Or a cat with tuna, for those heathens that do not know of the awesomeness of the platypus.

In a podcast (know direction IIRC) it was stated this wasn't the case cos they didn't want new players to have to learn a new set of rules when they move to full fat Pf. It will be interesting how they condense the Core Book into one newbie friendly box set!

I think this is a good approach myself. To cut things down they can drop all the high level spell lists, feats that have min. requirements that can't be met in 5 levels and possibly "fringe" feats. It will be interesting to see though - I can't wait until it is released!

I'm looking forward to this as well. It was great to come to ENWorld today to see news of the new box as the headline.

I see it'll be in the core rules subscription so I know I'll be receiving it (Yay!). I"m just curious to see how they plan to turn it into a PDF. Will they do separate PDFs for the various components only or would they try to shoehorn all of it into one consolidated PDF as well? Note: I won't get into digitalization of the dice and such. I leave that to others to debate.
