A living vault is a construct that can warp to a random point in the astral plane while it has a natural sequester for its self and all objects in it. It can turn invisible its collosal in size and can imprison a for within its self (but the for is completey emobile so thay can't acess the platracy. Lastly thay can only be summoned by its creator and can see through all disguises both mundane and magical.

A few campaigns ago our DM threw a lich at us (he was nasty..actually took a piece of my soul) and his phlactory was actually his tower. It was a living crystal stuff that constantly repaired itself. Inside was 13 levels of all kinds of nasty constructs, undead, living spells, traps, and puzzles. It took us several game sessions and dozens of talks with extraplanar creatures and weeks of research to figure out where it was and how to defeat it but it was a great campaign and challenge.

Just an idea for your lich's phlactory.
