As Castile walks closer, she asks "What's wrong, Taka - gah!" She immediately draws her axe, but she holds off on attacking when it becomes clear the zombie is docile.

"M-maybe. The large plant we burned down definitely had some sort of psychic ability." Castile quiets down when Kane approaches the plant thing. "Careful..."

While Kane works his magic, Castile looks around the shelters for any more zombies or, more hopefully, any living survivors. She walks into one of the shelters and emerges a minute later holding what looks to be a small, drum. "It's not very pretty in there. Weapon marks, blood on the walls, and... this." She hands the drum to Hú Lí. The colorful markings on its sides make it look like a child's toy.

As Kane approaches the plant-creature, it turns slightly in his direction. Its movements are stiff and accompanied by dry crackles and snaps, and it cannot turn very far, because its feet are rooted in the ground. It also lacks the earthy, fungal smell of the creatures encountered earlier, probably a sign that it is very nearly dead.

[sblock=Kane]You do feel some sort of connection through the fey spirit in your sword, but the zombie appears to have no mind, no volition. All you get is a lingering impression of misery and loss.[/sblock]

Hú Lí bows as she takes the drum. She holds it in her hand and looks it over.

"Alas," she says. "To find in this decaying place such signs of a happy life."

She holds the drum and taps it, then sings in a high, wavering voice.

"Here in this place
Once there lived people,
Once there lived children.
With toys brightly painted
As signs of happiness.
Now they are gone
The people vanished
Their homes falling into dust
All that is left are the painted toys
That speak of happiness so long ago."

"No m-mind, N-no will. Just m-misery a-and loss. F-find peace n-now..."

Kane spins around and brings down his sword upon the creatures miserable neck hoping to end her misery with one, swift, painless blow.

As the sword bites into the creature's neck, ending its unhappy existence, Kane sways on his feet, briefly overcome by a vision--a strong psychic impression of the person who became the poor mindless creature before him.

[sblock=Kane]You start out of a troubled sleep, to find that the screaming in your dream was real. As you crawl out of your shelter, one of your companions falls to the ground with a gash in his chest. In the darkness, you get only vague impression of the faces of the attackers--are they even human?--before your husband grabs your hand and tells you to run.

You run into the jungle with him and his brother. The attackers follow, gaining on you, for they are used to the jungle, and to running, as you are not. Suddenly you trip over a large tree root, tearing your dress. Lying on the ground, you feel the root shift and writhe under your legs. The sounds of pursuit abruptly cease, and the air becomes choked with some evil-smelling stuff that covers your face, your hair, your neck. You are sick and dazed. You lose consciousness.

It is later on, and you are moving back the way you came. You can no longer think. You can no longer feel. All you know is that what you ran towards is worse, far worse, than what you ran away from. Your mind slips away into darkness.

The vision abruptly ends, and you are yourself again.[/sblock]

Noriaki steps up and places a hand lightly on Kane's shoulder, to help steady him. "Are you alright? You look like you've just seen an oni."

Kane's eyes roll back in his head as his Ghost Voice issues forth airily from still lips as he recites the vision in his dream.

"...This woman ran from something into the arms of one of the plant creatures we destroyed yesterday. She was hunted. This must have been her camp. Perhaps she returned here when we destroyed what dominated it, as Noriaki suggested. There were two men with her. Perhaps those that fought under the sway of the master plant. I guess whatever hunted her and her companions are perhaps those that laid the traps. If we are to use this as our second camp, we may have to deal with these hunters first...

OOC: Kane describe's his dream using Ghost Sound to avoid large amounts of tiresome and embarrassing stuttering. it makes the telling all that much spookier. Feel free to check out dream above for details

Gelik shudders. "And here I thought that finding others on this island might be a cheerful prospect," he mutters.

OOC: Unless anything remarkable happens I'll assume that you continue following the other branch of the trail to the southwest.

Takahaan starts in again with his tone of leadership. "Come, friends. Let us not dwell in the mourning and sorrow for the lost soul trapped in the tree-shape." Beckoning his allies to leave the driftwood campsite, he leads the way back toward the crossroads, with intent to take the other tine of the fork-in-the-road.
