picture of every creature in the MM1, where they live, and their level

I went through the Monster Manual 1 and crammed a picture of every monster into one illustration.

It could theoretically be used to create on-the-fly encounters (cross-index the character level with the area type) although, truth be told, it might not be the BEST way to create encounters.

It is interesting to see the monsters plotted by area (plane, wilderness, dungeon, city, etc): you get a sense of what the expected level is for each type of adventure. For instance, the Monster Manual doesn't provide much challenge for urban adventuring above level 10, and the feywild stops being interesting around level 20.

For your convenience: Monster Manual 3 on a business card, which updates the monster math. Just throw that MM1 right in the garbage!

The yellow and purple are just to distinguish the crammed-together level bands from each other.
