Astronomer Sleuth Solves Mystery of Big Cosmos Discovery

I love studying the history of science. Father Lemaitre should be to physics what Friar Gregor Mendel is to genetics.

While it's absolutely true that Lemaitre doesn't get enough credit for his work (and I'm often guilty of using traditional nomenclature that doesn't acknowledge him), it's a bit of a stretch to say that he did for physics or even cosmology what Mendel did for genetics. Mendel wrote down the laws of genetics --- the basic concepts, Lemaitre's most important work "just" applied Einstein's laws of general relativity. Nonetheless, a too-often-overlooked scientist.

Yeah, you're right, I really should have used the term Cosmology instead of physics. I was typing fast last night. I thought about that after I went to bed.
