Short answer: too much extra work for the GMs.

Mostly it was rejected because it would force all the GMs to learn a new, complicated spell system to accommodate just the possibility of having a wordcaster in the party. Since the characters move from GM to GM through their career, it puts the burden on all the GMs.

Personally, when the book was new, I was seeing impressions that it was heavily favored towards the wizard. I was also getting the impression that with the right choices, it was far more overpowering that standard spells. Even the example "Selected Ice Blast Life Leech" shows you how to do three different effects with one standard action spell.

Ah, gotcha. That makes sense, it hadn't occurred to me yet that with the LPF setup you'd have a whole bunch of GMs needing to learn anything new that was added. Also understandable if it's a bit overpowered, I hadn't read completely through it yet. Still upgrading my knowledge from 3.5 to Pathfinder. Thanks for the explanation!
