OOC: FYI, I keep seeing discussions about lighting...Dannis is using his Ioun Torch, which is the equivalent of Continual Flame.

"If Kendra's father was here before us, it is possible he gathered any items of use," says Dannis. "I wonder why he failed to mention that in his notes."

The cleric moves cautiously to the side of the large sarcophagus. "Shall we see if anything of use remains?"

Vadim makes his way down the stairs with the others, taking up the rearguard position. His eyes easily pierce the gloom on the edges of Dannis' orbiting torch, and his keen ears pick up every noise from the crypt and the doorway above.

OOC: Did we all roll above 20s on our perception checks? That is impressive...also, probably a big waste of good rolls. LOL. :)

OOC: It really was, a should have checked more closely. I think a couple of you beat this one on the passive perception score.

The lid of the sarcophagus slides back smoothly. Fresh oil glistens on the stone runners in the light of Brendan's spell and the glow of Dannis' Ioun stone. Again there is no corpse to be found inside. Instead there is a trove of items. There are two quivers of arrows, 4 Sunrods, 6 flasks adorned with the familiar spiral symbol of Pharasma, 7 potion bottles--5 of similar design and two others in another design, 4 scrolls and a thin darkwood case decorated with an image of a scarab with a single eye glaring from its back—the same design that appears on the cover of the Manual of the Order of the Palatine Eye among the books in the professor’s collection to be returned to Embreth Daramid in Lepidstadt.

"Well, it certainly looks like the professor left much of the cache intact." Dannis chants a brief prayer, casting an orison to detect the presence of magic.

From the placement of the items it looks like there are a few gaps in the stash where the professor might have taken some potions and scrolls. Dannis concentrates on the items and determines quickly that their is some magic present.

[sblock=Dannis] As he continues to examine the items it becomes clear that multiple items are magical. Faint necromancy and moderate divination are with the darkwood box, but the box itself is not magical. A dozen of the arrows do not appear to be magical but seem to be made of silver. 10 of the arrows have a mild transmutation aura, 2 arrows have a moderate conjuration, 5 arrows have a different moderate conjuration, 5 potions give off mild conjuration (healing) and 2 moderate conjuration. The flasks give off transmutation (good). The scrolls are minor divination, 2 mild abjuration and one mild abjuration (good). [/sblock]

"Many of these items bear magic dweomers," says Dannis. As he states this, he reaches out to open the darkwood box.

The darkwood case is worth about 50 gp, and contains three objects of interest—a spirit board (think Ouija board) with a brass spirit planchette (the source of the moderate divination magic), and four iron and glass vials containing tiny, churning clouds of vapor (the source of the necromantic magic). The vials sit in velvet-lined indentations to the left of the spirit board and planchette, along with six empty indentations—from which more of the vials appear to have been removed recently.
