Catastrophe!

GM: Welcome to Catastrophe!
GM:

This first post will be a frequent go-to for both you and myself. During the course of this adventure, I will be posting the Encounters you have completed and the XP/Treasure earned in this section. When I award XP, I will first update this post, and then I will link to it when giving out the award. This should make it easy for all of us to keep track of all of the rewards given in this adventure.

Before we start, I would just like to take a few moments to lay out a few simple rules:

1) I will be using the Malenkirk battle system: In a nutshell, all of the badguys' initiatives will fall on the same count, they will all go "at once" and the results of their turn will appear in one post by myself (that way you know when it's your turn). Those who's initiatives are higher than the bad guys will go first, then the badguys, rinse, repeat as necessary :p

As far as action types of the reactive/interrupt nature are concerned: Use em when you got em! Since it is entirely possible that other characters may post before you get the chance, I will be extremely fair. As long as that particular enemy has not had the chance to act again, then its fair game to use your reactions/interrupts on him. If I need to roll back the proverbial clock to manage things, then we'll work it out :D

2) I expect a decent post rate. I'm not going to be a post-Nazi and say that you absolutely MUST post 3 times a day. I would prefer to see posts at about a 1 per day rate from each of you, however, I do understand that real life happens; In fact, I have a wife, 3 kids, a full time job, and I go to college pulling down roughly 12 units per semester, so if you miss a day or two here and there, no problem. If you can't post for more than 48 hours, please try to hop on and let us know before you disappear so that either I or another player (of your choice, make arrangements) can NPC your character for a turn (just make a quick post saying "hey, can't post right now, will do so on <date here>" or something like "Can't post now, NPC me on my next turn" That way we're not all waiting on someone to post without knowing the situation). If you plan on being longer than a week before a post (upcoming vacation, travel, etc) please let us know. This is more for the rest of your fellow players than it is for me.

3) HAVE FUN! If you don't, the beatings will continue until morale improves! ;)

4) HAVE FUN! (no seriously...really...please?)

[sblock=Completed Challenges and XP]

* Skill Challenge 1: Saving Sailors/Survive the Storm/Finding the Hive
** This was a lvl 3 skill challenge of complexity 4 (10 successes before 3 failures)
** Group completed 7 major successes before 3 failures. As a partial success, this meant that the group was penalized by seeing only 1/2 of the Kruthik that would be in the battle.
** This Skill Challenge is worth 1200 XP. Although Rilissa is no longer part of the group, he did help complete this challenge. As such, the reward will be divided by 6 members, meaning each of you earn 200 XP from this challenge.

* Battle 1: Kruthik Workers
** This battle contained 5 Kruthik Young and 9 Kruthik Hatchlings (who I renamed as simply Kruthik Workers).
** Before any real actions were taken by Faraque (Rilissa), he quit the adventure, so the reward for this battle will be divided by only 5 members.
** Kruthik Young are worth 125 xp each and Kruthik Hatchlings are worth 31 xp each. This adds up to a total of 904 xp. Due to L4W reward rules, this amount is doubled to 1808 xp. 1808 divided among 5 members means you each earn 361 xp.

* Battle 2: Kruthik Soldiers
** This battle contained 3 Kruthik Soldiers (AKA Kruthik Adults), and 8 Kruthik Workers (3 Kruthik Young, and 5 Kruthik Hatchlings).
** The rewards for this battle are divided among the group's 5 members.
** Kruthik Young are worth 125 xp each, Kruthik Hatchlings are worth 31 xp each, and Kruthik Adults are worth 175 xp each. This adds up to a total of 1055 xp. This doubles to 2110 xp. When divided among the 5 members, it gives each of them 422 xp.

* Battle 3: Kruthik Queen
** This battle contained 1 Kruthik Queen (AKA Kruthik Hive Lord [lvl 6]), 1 Kruthik Princess (AKA Young Kurthik Hive Lord [lvl 4]), 4 Kruthik Sentinels (AKA Sharn Kruthik [lvl 2]), and 3 baby Kruthik Swarms (AKA Fresh-Hatched Kruthik Swarm [lvl 3]).
** The rewards for this battle are divided among the group's 5 members.
** The Hive Lord is worth 500 xp, the Young Hive Lord is worth 350 xp, the Sharn Kruthik are worth 125 xp each, and the swarms are worth 150 xp each. This adds up to a total of 1800 xp. This doubles to 3,600 xp!! 3,600 divided among the 5 members gives each of them 720 xp.

*TOTAL XP EARNED THIS ADVENTURE (not including time XP above): 8715 xp (1,703 xp each)

And now... onto the game!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

When you arrive at the docks, an impatient Cadalis stands near a few shoremen who are loading the provisions for the adventurer's trip onto a less-than-grandiose sailing vessel. "Adequate" would be a good term for the boat named simply as "Crest Hopper".

Tapping his right foot, he greets you as you arrive.

"About time you arrived. Now hurry and put your belongings onto the ship so that we can hit the high seas. The sooner you get on, the sooner this trip can be over with."

Generally a miserable human being, you catch a glimmer of something akin to anticipation and happiness when Cadalis mentions the high seas.

"Oh, and before you get on, I need you to sign this paperwork contracting you officially as workers the IAC, and that you sign away any and all liability of the IAC against any happenings, injuries, or deaths that may occur against your person. Once signed and initialed, you may enter the floating vessel behind me."

Ignatz arrives wearing a pack slung around one shoulder, neatly leaving enough room for his enormous Gouge to hang across his back in the same direction. He's nearly skipping as he approaches the docks.

"Woohoo! Ve get to go out for anodder voyage! Ov cozz, de last vun didn't go novhere, so diz is moch more exciting." It isn't clear who exactly Ignatz is talking to as he takes Cadalis' pen and scrawls his name in the vicinity of the dotted line. He's loud enough that the addressed party need not actually be within ten feet of him to hear him clearly, assuming Ignatz even has anyone in mind. It's more likely that he's just talking.

Sha'kar looks dubiously at the "ship" behind Cadalis as he approaches the docks after completing his shopping, but has seen others in far worse shape in the years he worked on Barcas, so it doesn't slow him down much.

"Death, eh? Here's hoping that's not a likely outcome..." says Sha'kar, but signs his name on the contract anyway, recognizing a typical "We aren't responsible for anything that might happen" clause, then proceeds up the gangway onto the boat. "Where should I store my things?"

Once on the gangway, Sha'kar sees the hatch that goes below decks that currently hangs open. From his vantage point, little can be seen but stairs.

"You can place your belongings in the passenger's quarters."

[sblock=Sha'kar] If you decide to go below decks, you find that the passenger's quarters are not much more than a half dozen hammocks strung up around the inside of the ship. There's barely enough room to squeeze all of your gear into a wooden chest that sits below the hammock.[/sblock]

Sha'kar takes the stairs down to the interior of the boat and takes in the hammocks and small chests below them. "On second though," he mutters to himself under his breath on seeing the so called "passenger's quarters", "perhaps I'll keep my gear with me for now. Never know when disaster may strike and you won't have time to go back for anything...not to mention the lack of locks on these things."

[sblock=Gear] It has come to my attention that some of you have been under-rewarded for your level. If you could, please, on your next post, include a small entry as to your character's total worth in gear, and another small entry for the next three pieces of gear you wish to receive, I'll do my best to get you guys up to speed during this adventure.

NOTE: I may not give you EXACTLY the gear on your wishlist. Sometimes I may give out other gear if it makes sense in-game[/sblock]

Ignatz bounds noisily down the stairs behind Sha'kar. "Ho, iz so cute! Diz vun is mine," he declares, hopping into one of the two hammocks closest to the stairs. He curls up with his pack as a pillow, hugging his gouge. He smiles and opens one eye, and says, "Hyu tell me vhen ve push off, hokay?"

OOC: Ignatz has equipment worth 979 gp, or 1065 if the price of mundane starting gear is included. (Adventurer's Kit, etc)

The most pressing items on Ignatz's wishlist:
+1 Badge of the Berserker
+1 Magic Hide Armor
Iron Armbands of Power

The Cursed One stands on the dock looking at the boat for a very long time arguing with the air and pointing a stern finger at noone beside him. At last he stamps his foot and shouts "You bloody will or I'll throw myself overboard!"

The wind seems to settle as he comes on board anger splashed across his face. He looks at the papers Cadalis wants signed with dismay. With a shrug he stabs the sharp end of the quill into his index finger and presses the drop of blood that swells there into the parchment.

"That's the best I can do. Noone will comefor reprisals if I perish in any case. I am into the mouth of the Star. If it chose bite down you will have no fault."

On deck he takes his place at the prow showing no desire to look below board. He waves at his new companions tentatively if the look towards him though judging by his face he doesn't expect his greeting to be reciprocated. If anything it seems he expects to be categorically disliked.

First Post
Rilissa trails slightly behind the rest of the crew, having had to rush and get her gear from upstairs at the tavern. She gets to the group at a slight jog, carrying an adventurers kit, her armor, her sword and her cloak. Slowing to a walk, she finds the gentleman with the waivers, and signs her name without a thought.

"This should be entertaining." she thinks. Climbing aboard, she heads to the quarters, and stows her gear as appropriate.

"Oy! Ignatz! Mind giving me a hand putting this on?" she says to the barbarian, holding up her leather armor and shaking it a bit.

OOC: Regarding treasure: +1 Longsword of Defense, +1 Cloak of Resistance, 148gp.
Wishlist is unmade. My desires are defensive armor of some kind, and anything that lets me teleport or improves my damage.

Corragan heads over to Cadalis and looks over the document. Still not entirely trusting of Cadalis, he looks over it carefully, to make sure nothing seems too concerning before signing his name on the bottom.

Turning to the ship, Corragan's glower turns into a bright smile as he sees his friends already on the ship. "Hello again!" he says cheerfully, and seeing The Cursed One, "Good to meet you, friend. I hope we'll have a good journey together." Turning to the group as a whole he says, "I've got some apples from the inn, if anyone wants one?"

OOC: Just advance warning, which I guess is not unexpected, over Christmas I'm going to be with my family quite a lot. I'll have access to the internet while I'm at home but may or may not get a chance to post 24th December to 26th December (depending on whether I decide to have a lie in, or remember that I've not written Christmas cards yet etc).

Corragan has 1117gp worth of gear, including Claw Gloves as his magic item. I'll sort out a wish list of items soon, off the top of my head: Alfsair Spear +1, Magic Hide Armour (maybe Pouncing Beast Armour), a neck item (Badge of the Beserker perhaps).
