B.B. Halls

human ranger, level 3. Serpents Skull, Pathfinder AP.
After only seventeen years of life, he was just experimenting with the concept of "Not Charging". (Usually to whack evildooers in the face with his shield)
When his bow proved nearly useless against skeletons attacking from above, he used a grapple and rope, falling back on his old technique "Charge"

The skeletons surrounded him biting and clawing, but with his trusty shield still strapped to his back, he stood no chance.

(Note BB stood for "Big Brass", & the H in his name was silent.

I am here today to mourn the demise of Lady Kayura, who passed away last monday (1/16/12) in the 13 Kingdoms (3.5). She was many things. A Rogue, a Fighter, a Dervish, a Shadowdancer. Abducted by marauders at a young age and surviving unspeakable cruelty to become a destructive warlord herself, she was still learning to be a good person since reuniting with her sister, whom she died trying to protect in vain, as her sister fell moments after her final plea to escape. Deep into an orc and demon filled fortress that had become so full of bodies the ground was difficult terrain, Kayura bravely and happily sliced her way through hundreds of foes in 28 rounds of combat that never let up for even a moment. Down on her health and her luck, rather than slink away into the shadows to recuperate, she looked over a few feet away to see the only one she cared about in even more dire straits, and pressed on with a ferocious assault and a greater invisibility from the party mage that turned out to be of no protection from the giant orc leader.

Always careful to exhibit a cheery, plucky demeanor no matter the circumstances as a mental defense against showing weakness, she perished as she lived, with a smile on her face and corpses all around her. A death that would be the envy of any warrior.

RIP

Gerung, a 4th level minotaur fighter in the cruel world of the Dark Sun died on January 22nd after being brought down repeatedly by an oath wight.

I DMed an AD&D homebrew last night in a wizard's castle. The guy playing the thief was poisoned by a spider and died. His second thief got poisoned by spider again and died. The rest of the group cleared the dungeon and he rolled great stats for a third character. I hope this new character sees the link between spiders and poison.

Had a PC death Wednesday night.

Though the spider PC died, the few rounds that he held the lieutenant back allowed a couple more arrows to hit, and a couple more spells to land. It was nearly a TPK wipe, but his sacrifice ended up saving the party, in all likelihood.
I regretfully announce another PC death this past Wednesday night. The party faced off with a huge demonic creature, standing nearly twenty-five feet tall. The fight took place in the presence of a powerful demon (with whom they had made a bet), and was fought ten feet or so from a 250 foot deep crevice leading into the hells.

In the first full round of combat, the demon slapped the sage PC with his club, killing him instantly and flinging his body into the crevice. The remaining warrior, summoner, necromancer, and witch (a friendly NPC) finished off the monster within one round, but it was a bittersweet victory.

The observing demon retreated back into the crevice (as per the rules of the bet), and has agreed to stop any more demons from coming through for one year. The sage may have died, but his bravery helped secure safety for the surrounding towns for the next year, and his comrades have promised to return in one year's time to close the crevice for good, in his memory.

However sad the death was, the sage was in his late fifties, and had lived a very full life. He was a storyteller, bard, magician, ladies man, scholar, librarian, and mischief maker. His brothers and sisters will miss him, but as he was the nephew to a warlord, they will want for nothing due to his passing.
