Green Ronin, Mike Mearls, and other assorted items

An assortment of unrelated news items today! Green Ronin updates us on its 2012 plans, Mike Mearls talks D&D 5th Edition, and a couple of community resource updates.

Game Informer has an interview with WotC's Mike Mearls: "Players can pick their own style and complexity within a class. Think of it kind of like having a $10 budget to spend on lunch.... DMs have a similar process they can go through, adding optional rules to flesh out their campaigns. Those options can range from creating a unique list of races or classes for a setting, to adding in special rules for things like managing a kingdom or waging a war. Mike also says that their shortlist for D&D's core elements include "the six abilities, classes, levels, hit points, Armor Class, and a few other things". Check out the full interview for more!

Green Ronin's plans for 2012 can be found here. Chris Pramas talks about Dragon Age, A Song of Ice and Fire, and Mutants & Masterminds. Highlights include "A Game of Thrones Edition" of A Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying. This takes the existing core rulebook and appends the entirety of the Peril at King's Landing adventure. This will give you all the rules and a full adventure in one glorious 320 page, full color package. This will be followed by a Night's Watch sourcebook.

Necromancers Online has its usual slew of free RPG content. Extraordinary Feats is a new article devoted to new 3.5/Pathfinder feats, with 10 dragon-themed feats; and Best in Class is a new article devoted to alternate 3.5/Pathfinder class features, with a pair of necromancy-themed archetyps: the master of unlife wizard and the corpse piper bard.

Looks like a good year to come!

The bombs fell. Billions died. Generations past. Now it's your chance. Can you rebuild this Broken Earth? Now available for Savage Worlds and Pathfinder RPG.

Mysterious October release sounds promising. I hope they will do a compilation of their Emerald City Knights adventure line and the upcoming Profiles, like they do for the Threat Reports.

The Game Informer interview makes me more optimistic. Mearls sounded much more realistic that the previous snippet.

Chris, who is the cover artist for set III? It's wonderful.

It only surprised me up until around 1977, ... I had thought we were going to have a considerable audience of gamers and science fiction and fantasy fans. I thought easily with those we'd have 50,000 or more [buyers], but when people began to write me [with questions] about what fantasy books to read, and I saw the wide range of both younger and older people who were attracted to the game, I understood that it was reaching a deeper chord, something deep within us.
