I didn't feel very strongly about any of them, but I went with Paladin, because I dislike mechanically relevant alignment, and that class is pretty much the embodiment of that.

I don't have a problem with the 4E version, since it's alignment neutral.

I voted monk, though there were a few more that were close.

I have just never liked the way monks were done. They do not fit with the other classes, and the eclectic mix of abilities they seem to get do not fit with any other class well.

In 4E, they were in the correct book and overall were done well.

There are several things wrong with that, but it's a more reasonable argument than "anybody can kill things, therefore the assassin shouldn't exist".

Except, based on the topic, it is "anybody can kill things, many better than the Assassin, therefore Vyvyan hates the Assassin." Sorry you don't like my reasons for hating it.
