I've played with the guy before. He usually ends up role playing a prostitute, so it's not entirely juvenile, though I am slightly disturbed by the frequency at which he plays them. The rest of the party is essentially eragon with a bat instead of a dragon, a master thrower with hammers, and a sacred fist/fist of the forest.

Sexuality is a great venue for roleplaying. Immaturity, however, isn't.

Amen.

Ah, one of those types, eh? I was lucky enough that the only player in my group that wanted to play a prostitute was a girl and she turned it into a woman-exploits-man character. Not to say that a guy with incredible devotion to his character couldn't pull it off, too, but at the end of the day it just feels weird to know that your friend is flawlessly comfortable in the other gender.

I'm fine with people playing cross gender, but there's a difference between that and constantly playing a prostitute.

I don't know which is funnier,

1) Someone has come up with a book for this
2) This comes up regularly in their game
3) So many people have posted variations of "I'm not helping", just don't post :p

I hope you enjoy this, it is a certainly strange concept from the way I game, I would imagine that a prostitute would be a level 3-4 commoner with 18 Charisma...and possible 18 Constitution ;) but not much more

EDIT: Unless s/he is into something that requires Knowledge (Nature) I am guessing Knowledge (Local) would suffice (I don't think ANY ranks should be put in Knowledge (Religion)...*shudders*)

For race, use an Elf with the Feykissed template from BOEF. For class, start with a Bard with proficiency in Perform (sexual techniques) then add either Rake or Sacred Prostitute as the prestige class. In addidtion to Perform, give the character Profession (prostitute) so they know how to keep things job-related, and of course Bluff and Diplomacy are very important. If the john needs som discipline then the pro needs Intimidate as well. Makes sure to one of the characters access to the spell Block the Seed just to be on the safe side...

A rank in Profession (prostitute)? Rest of the character whatever you want, however you want it?

Because, you know, most prostitutes aren't specially trained or anything. Or even especially beautiful or charismatic or whatever. In fact, most prostitutes are very miserable women who got handed a lot of crap by life, and by men. They don't WANT to prostitute themselves, they're not getting anything out of it except for a little bit of money and a lot of abuse, and it doesn't especially make them good at anything an adventurer could use - except maybe a cynical enough outlook on life that being stabbed in the face by a random Orc's lucky crit at least doesn't come as a surprise.

IF a prostitute is indeed lucky enough to escape that life, and becomes an adventurer, she'd need to have an entire different skillset than cheap come-ons and low self-esteem.

What about a cleric of Lastai? Lastai is the goddess of pleasure, passion and love in the BoED.

Any of the ... squishy bits ... could be resolved by role-playing.

Also, it's funny to see people being so shy on the matter. What's so innocent about D&D that sex becomes a taboo topic? D&D is a limitless medium of cultural experimentation and sexuality is very much a part of every culture, no matter how primitive or advanced.
Should this thread be about designing a female companion, an adventuring cohort wife, lover... I'd participate. "Whore", "Prostitute" implies an immature and potentially abusive at worst, a debasing view of another at best, and therefore I'm willing to voice my disinterest.
I participated in This Thread discussing things pertaining to sexuality, pregnancy, motherhood, etc. The reality is, D&D has very intentionally avoided producing any official material on the subject, and that's a good business strategy. Keeps things simple, prevents people from objecting to the game any more then they might already, keeps them focusing on their actual subject.

I find it amusing that so many people who I often see focused on having their games maintain a degree of realism and internal consistency are uncomfortable having sex in their games. It's natural, it's happening between millions of people right now as I'm typing this, and it's continuing our species, for better or worse. Now, to address the topic, for a typical prostitute, a Human commoner with only one rank in those mentioned above. Samloyal23's adivce is great for the higher end "escort services." A Nymph or Succubus, if you can make them loyal enough, would truly be a walking tall tale.
