So I decided to build a game table

So a few weeks ago I was talking to my friend and said I really need a game table for my den and he said "lets build one", so we got some wood and started building it. It has six built in felt lined dice/poker chip boxes, a white board center, and a felt covered insert for the center for poker. Here some pics so far, what do you guys think?

You sir have inspired me. I have a table that I fit over an old kitchen table in my basement for Heroclix games, but I have to say I love your table.

That may have to be my summer project.

Thanks guys, we are building it in my friends front yard and porch. I figured the white board would be good for the DM to draw out scenarios and plus my kids can draw on it too. I will probably make a acrylic insert with a grid for miniatures (warhammer) a really don't use them for D&D, and I will make wood slats to go over the entire center so it can be a flat table top. Not bad for around $250.00 in materials.

My only suggestion?

Cup/Beer/soda can holders.

Everyone drinks while you are mad gaming for hours, and holders would keep the table and accessories safe.

Nice.

Although, being a perfectionist geek I can't help but criticise...

Why is the central white-board area so deeply recessed when you already have individual dice-rolling areas? The depth of the main play area just seems like it would be a hindrance.

Actually cup holders are in the works, and Kzach we went deep as we did for the different layers that will eventually be in there and for miniature games and such. Also the outside boards are 12 inches wide so the players can actually fit their character sheet and books on it.

Anyone who can't manage a beverage proficiently during a game gets sent to the Incompetent Ninny Corner and is forced to wear the Black Hat of Shame when I'm DM. No need for these fancy-schmancy 'cup holders'.

Actually, one benefit of the recessed center, at least from what I can see in those pictures, is that you could conceivably leave minis in place if you have to stop mid-battle or something.

Yep, after I make the top boards to cover the center, any minis can stay in place and the table is still usable. I do play some Warhammer 40k and some old school Battletech.
