[Adventure] A Call for Lovers (DM: jbear Judge:Lord Sessadore)

Gray nods at Wat's mention of the slow earth and puffs his chest, just a bit, in pride at the recognition of his skill. Moving like the winds, he rushes in to get closer to the protruding hands, ready to move out of the area the moment something should try to attack him, trap him, or make a sudden movement.

"We are coming, you two! Move your hands if you can hear me!"

Sabynha doesn't wait for any hands to move; Gray's words spur her into action. The vistani can bear the thought of the two lovers being trapped no longer. She puts her dagger in her teeth and wades into the pond. In her head she suspected a trap, but her heart would bear this sight no longer. Sabynha uses her buckler like a shovel, digging at the mounds frantically.
OOC: May the he gods help her now!

Mud Mounds (surrounded by light brown/orange colour): These three mud mounds are about 3 feet high, wide and strong enough to stand on. They are difficult terrain.

Zuri hangs back as Sabynha races in to dig through the mounds. If the lovers are truly in the mounds, well, the hands aren't moving now. Zuri's pretty sure she doesn't want to see the condition of the bodies.

With the strange goings on in the cave, Gray wasn't quite sure what to expect. The hands might belong to two dead lovers...or they could simply be trapped in the grip of a giant earth elemental, unconscious, but alive (though possibly suffocating). As such, he wasn't going to allow hesitancy to slow his actions, even in the face of possible danger. He was hired to assist in stopping the feud of two peoples... if he could prevent that by bringing back to living lovers, then quite possibly, those peoples could unite in a marriage of the two younglings. Though not exactly the brightest, most logical person in the group, Gray scanned the mounts for the best way to release the owners of those hands from their earthen bonds.

OOC: I imagined Sabynha being adjacent to both mounds with the hands; as long as that's the case, I'm fine with it.

Initiative: 1d20+5=22
Perception: 1d20+7=10

Sabynha was not paying much attention to anything but her digging, however she is pretty quick to react when...

The surface of the muddy pool sparkles much like the enchanted stream that trickles into its perimeter. Tiny points of light rise in pairs from the murk. Burbling sounds follow the appearance of the lights as humanoids of oozing mud some small and malformed, others more like humans caked in mud-form around each pair of glittering eyes. With slopping noises, the creatures stagger forward.

Those on the edge of the pool are much quicker to see what is occurring than those within the pool. And despite suspecting that the pool held hidden dangers they are not quick enough to react before the mud creatures that emerge from the pools attack first.
Those on the edge of the pool on the other hand ...

GM: Surprise Round! Cave of Mud
Those that made 11 perception or higher are not surprised: Wat, Rain, Zuri.
Rolling initiative: Those that beat initiative get a surprise action before the mudmen: Rain and Zuri act first
The mudmen follow with Surprise Action
The Wat with his Surprise Action followed by everyone else except Rain with full round actions
Then Mudmen act.
Then all PCs act with full round actions.

NB: I moved Sabynha to better match Nemesis Destiny 's imagining of where she would be positioned. Hope its okay (The mudmen actually don't want to be stuck next to you)

OOC: Sorry jbear, not sure where Rain is going here. Rain made the Perception roll (so, she is not surprised), but lost the initiative roll with a 13 against your 14. That doesn't seem to follow with what you wrote.
