The thugs all appear to be human, and don't seem to have any tattoos or common identifying features (or anything on them beyond mundane weapons and armor and some small change). Something seems a bit 'off' about the gangster, though it's hard to put a finger on exactly what.

"Interesting" Vanri comments as Teclis let's the group know his suspicions, "didn't the letter of introduction mention that the city watch was being attacked? I seriously doubt common street thugs would have the resources to enhance themselves magically, so this may not have been a random robbery"

"Hmm, seems that way," Althaea offers as she puts away her crossbow, letting it hang down in a sling by her leg. "Soril's right, we should ask this Lady Daybringer if she knows anything about the situation. She might be able to shed some light on what happened here." With that, she motions forwards on the road. "Shall we continue?"

While his allies investigate their fallen foes Soril turns his attention to the people that live in these tents. "These thugs came out of the tents...not through them from somewhere else. So they probably share these tents with those that ran away." He turns towards the body Teclis is standing next to and frowns at it. "Don't like that House. Humans are too inquisitive for their own good most of the time, always trying to change what is." He points to the corpse with his dragonheaded rod and then sweeps it out to the tent city. "And this is what you get."
He nods towards Althaea. "I've my own questions to ask her." He says with a scowl.
