Althaea Ripace

That was the solution she'd overlooked.

Considering that she'd just returned a long process of preventing a similar solution from being enacted, it wasn't too much of a surprise.

"I see," Althaea intones hesitantly. The move was bold, but it was at worst an effective stall tactic. Though she feared for what may come of such an arrangement, the rarity of serious challenge among the fey nobility not giving her much to base her thoughts on, she thought it best to trust we friend's judgment for now, at least. "I suppose you should inform the others... or maybe not distract them from the coming task and tell them after we've finished in Barrinsgate. Your choice."

Soril

"In time, when we've dealt with Barrinsgate." He smiles and then glances back up at the pixie briefly. "I would not want to give her something else to complain about."

"Thank you for your council. It is as refreshing as always." He says with a nod.

The trip from Novaric to Barrinsgate was largely uneventful save for your conversations among yourselves; there were few other passengers, and the crew kept to themselves. Shortly after turning on to the river, the shanty town outside of Barrinsgate became visible. In odd counterpoint, a new -- and obviously Imperial -- bridge made a high span over the river that almost any river craft could row or sail under. The captain tied up his ship on a small dock before the bridge, though it seemed like the city's main docks were farther up-river.
OOC: I'm going to use GM blocks for quoting the adventure going forward.

GM: The crowded, stinking streets of the shantytown are
slippery with sewage and choked with garbage. Ragged
children of half a dozen races run through the warrens,
mutilated beggars cry, and half-starved dogs slink aside as
you make your way through this sea of misery.

Teclis Stormborn

"What a charming place. Keep your hands close to your purse, fellows."
Teclis says, doing as he just advised, only that in his case, the purse is actually an enchanted bag.
People coming to close get "the look".

OOC: Streetwise +12, Intimidate +17

streetwise check for Teclis: (1d20+12=32)
GM: The shantytown is a warren of narrow, trashstrewn passages.

perception checks for Althea; Silas; Soril; Tatterdemalion; Teclis; Vanri (1d20+10=18, 1d20+8=17, 1d20+7=15, 1d20+10=17, 1d20+5=21, 1d20+5=24)
Vanri notices something.
GM: What you had taken for more vagrants suddenly move toward you, weapons raised.

OOC: Just wanted to remind you that Sorcerous Vision lets Teclis use Arcana for Perception. With a rolled 16 his total is 29.

Edit: Are any innocents civilians in the area and not shown on the map? Which would decrease the possible use of area effects. If this are just abandoned tents, Teclis has not much problems with slight property damage.

OOC: Okay, so Teclis isn't surprised either.
People in the area other than those attacking you seem to be backing off rapidly. Please pick a starting spot on the grid

Tatterdemalion, who'd been alternating between flying at around knee height and landing to peer at something she found interesting for some reason...usually something random like a piece of trash, or a hole a mouse fled into...is taken aback by the sudden change in local conditions. She stops where she is and frowns irritably.

"Really?"

(Tatter is at S19)

Teclis Stormborn

"Incoming. Don't rush them to fast this time. Wait for artillery."
Is all Teclis says. Combat isn't the place for big talks, but for big blasts of arcane might!

OOC: Would like to start at R19

"Seems we have a welcoming Committee" Vanri notes as the thugs make their approach. "I don't suppose you would be willing to speak before the sand drinks blood today?" The Genasi asks the approaching brigands hopefully, although his weapon, Foebinder, appears in his hand.

OOC:
Vanri will start at Q20, he is trying a diplomacy check to see if he can prevent a fight
