Battle Pit Cages, Round 4

GM: Some notes: River missed his attack, so no THP for Pok, he took 5 damage (after DR) before saving.

I don't see that CaBaNa's VoA's initial effect (save ends) goes away if the power is not sustained, am I correct?


While Amarande continues to pursue the deadly displacer beast, both he and the beast are surprised when the bars of the cage slide up out of the floor and the energy field protecting the bars activates, trapping them inside.

The displacer beast, hitching about as it circles the knight and burned most badly by the chimera's fire, finally succumbs to the flames, letting our a painful sound before falling to its side.

The chimera, its goat head on a pivot, spies the small gnome next to its cage controls. With a deadly bleat, the chimera changes direction and charges down Pok, knocking him painfully to the ground.

The manticore still tries to disembowel the half orc who has him pinned, but is unable to get a claw past the outstretched metal fist.

The winches activate again, releasing more length of chain.

The bugbears seem angry that one of their number is slain. The ogre leader takes a massive swing at the only thing close enough, Rumbum. While the majority of the swing is slowed by the wall's edge, the head of the massive flail comes around the corner and lands solidly with the orc, knocking him to the floor. While the treasure has disappeared from view, the riches are still burned into the ogre's mind and he finds himself unable to leave his new hoard.

The bugbears advance on the now prone Rumbum and River. The blows continue to blast the heroes backwards and further into the room.

In a desperate attempt to escape, the bugbear next to the manticore unleashes a flurry of swinging flail head attacks. The blows knock back Tondrek and Doggie as well as the stout Muzdum. The bugbear then runs around the edge of the cage and away from the Manticore.

After activating the cage, the animal has to be in the caged area until the end of your next turn. If the animal leaves the cage area, the cage resets.

Also! As an alternative you can activate the chain winch to pull the beast 10 feet (2 squares). Current length of chain (distance the monsters move outside of box): chimera: 20 feet, manticore: 30 feet. The winch will let out more chain periodically. [/sblock]

River heals Rumbam as he is attacked by the Bugbear. But he is unable to stop the Ogre afterward.

Keeping his shielding prayer, River stands up. "Knock down that one!" as he project a bolt of light against another bugbear (B3). The bugbear is unarmed by the bolt, but he starts to glow with some light, guiding River's ally weapons wtoward him.

Muzdum is pushed back but not down, he quickly sprints after the bugbear. "Shulda stay in yer cage ugly!" he bellows, taking a small, almost nonexistent jump, which seems an awesome feat for a dwarf as fat, ehm, 'robust' as Muzdum. He hands a solid axe blow, sending the bugbear to the ground. Trinfantly, the dwarf steps on the prone warrior, grabbing its left arm. "Now stay still while I chop yer head, will ye sweetheart." Not feeling quite collaborative towards the dwarf's endeavours, the bugbear struggles, making Muzdum's axe to hit his arm instead of his neck. "Yer a moving little chicken aint ya..." says the dwarf between teeth.

Actions: Opportunity action: Combat agility vs B3, hit for 29, drops it prone and its grabed. Standard: Slash and pummel. Barely hits with CA and his -2 to defenses, dealing extra 14 dmg for a total of 43 dmg

Amarande's eyes flash in anger as the beast falls before him, but not by his hands, then turns and sees the situation and hears Pok's words. The man taps the cage uselessly with his sword, then turns his attention to his burning companion, but his own situation prevents him from being too much to assist the smaller panther.

Luckily, the creature is able to put out most of the small flames still lingering by rolling around, unfortunately, the warrior is not so lucky.... again.

Important things: +5 damage rolls against enemies with CA. +2 damage on bloodied enemies. Enemies adjacent to Ulvellyn grant CA to Amarande. Resist 10 necrotic/9 fire. If having thp's 1/round can take 5 damage to add 5 damage to attack's damage. At start of turn can make a saving throw against daze/stun even if condition isn't (save ends).

GM: [MENTION=36973]stonegod[/MENTION] The cage will close this round (end of PC's turn). If Tondrek ends his turn in his current location, he will be trapped in the cage with the Manticore. I think, given his mechanical nature, previous view of the room, and current dimensions of Amarande's cage, he would know the full situation. Feel free to change your move.

Pok starts to operate the panel of the cage, then stops abruptly and begins a short tirade. How'd you know the cages would open anyway? I heard you when we entered, "this ones mine", you were moving before the cages even fell. How do I know you aren't a spy? finishes the gnome in exasperation, his fingers tantalizingly close to the release button of Amarande's prison.
