Galim is still out for blood. Following as fast as he can, he reaches the gnome axes swinging wildly. This time, both sink into the small shape.
"Ha, this way it is done!"

Doral joins his dwarven companion side in the melee to find that the gnome has faded away. "Where did he go?" he asks looking all around.

Jortex ignores the duo to keep the pressure on the other halfling, knowing how dangerous a slinger can be. Whipping out a shuriken he moves and tosses but his quick opponent ducks behind a rock just in time.

OOC:Shayuri?? hafrogman?? your both up. Gnome is invisible.

"Steady," Ellowyl murmurs to herself as she surveys the battlefield. "He won't have gone far..."

She swirls her staff, as if using it to stir a pot. From the spot the gnome had vanished from, a small vortex of bitingly cold wind spins up, blowing debris and frost around in a tight spiral!

(Chilling Cloud - Burst 1 centered on the square the gnome was last seen in. Atk versus Fort defense for 5 damage and target takes -2 penalty on attacks until my next turn starts.)

The halfling slinger slinks behind the rocks (total concealment) and Jortex keeps an eye incase he shows himself once more.

Marcus starts looking for the gnome his weapon and holy symbol ready.

After several long seconds the gnome doesn't resurface. Then Jortex cocks his head. "The slinger he's running. Should we follow?" he asks looking at the earthen wall that would need to be climbed first.

OOC: Combat effectively over, but you could try tracking the invisible gnome if you wish.

"Follow a halfling and gnome through a forest they know better than we do and while they have a head start?" Ellowyl shakes her head. "I think not. Lets see if any of these others survived. We can bring them back around and ask a few questions."

She starts down to the fallen cohorts and conspirators they unearthed in this dig.

Doral and Jotrex start searching as Marius looks over the fallen workers.

Everyone can see that the dig site was also the gnome and his minions campsite. Bedrolls and gear along with a few crates stand along the outer wall.

A canvas tarp, which might be a downed tent, suddenly moves and the warrior approaches with his sword out. With the halflings help they throw back the tarp to reveal a bound and gagged human.

"Master Douven!" Jortex yells in surprise. "He's here!"

After freeing their old mentor from his bounds the man coughs a little before speaking. "Thank you, thank you. It is a great to see all of you. But how? When? I mean how did you know to come here?"

After the long story and the finishing of the searching...

"Well this cultist were after this,"
Douven says standing an almost four-foot tall mirror up on the ground. "It was one of many that helped seal the rift that led to the Shadowfell. I fear they don't truly need it to reopen the rift, but it would have helped to make it a little faster for certain."

"Well one of the men survived, but he man not awaken for a day or so,"
the elven cleric says solemnly. "I think we should take him back to Winterhaven and when he awakes we get some answers about this cult."

Meanwhile back in Winterhaven...

Alek Padraig kneels in quiet contemplation in the temple of Avandra. His solemn time of prayer and meditation is quickly interrupted when the doors burst open and a ragged group of people come in crying for help.

As he rises and watches he hears Sister Linora asks what happened.

"It were slavers matriarch. Evil humanoids that looked like little dog-men come on our farm and tried to steal everyone away,"
a haggard looking women says near breathlessly.

Others start to talk in over the women as she tries to continue.

"They killed my husband."

"They took my little boy."

"They torched our farm and fields."

The group of eleven seem to be made up mostly of women, old men, and a few children.

Alek gives up on his meditations and joins Sister Linora.

The young knight is of average height, slender, with nearly black hair and blue eyes that a fair number of village girls seem rather enchanted by (and Alek does his best to ignore).

OOC: Are any of them obviously injured? Does Alek recognize these people (small town, but don't know how small...)?

[sblock=OOC]They are from a farming community. Really not a town or villiage just a small area where about two to three families live close to help with the work and for protection.[/sblock]

As some of Sister Linora's acolytes help with those needing attention the aged nun turns to Alek.

"Your father will need to hear about this," she says patting a woman on the shoulder. "It will be alright my child."

"Did you hear what they said about dog-men? It must be those kobolds again. They are getting braver by the week."

"Well now," Ellowyl says, gliding over to give the mirror a look. "All this trouble over something that will aid a ritual to open a gate to the Shadowfell. If they'd been a touch more patient, and more careful, we might never have discovered this plan."

She brushes her fingertips over the mirror's surface, then runs her thumb over them, her expression distant and musing.

Then the eladrin nods curtly and gives the unconscious man a glance.

"No need to dally then. Lets collect everything they left and take it back with us to analyze in depth."
