D&D 5E So did they just drop modularity ? This is what has me worried.

If they were 2, or 5, you could also ask "why 2" or "why 5".

This comes down to what I like as class identity: I do not mind spell, etc, sharing amongst classes; but I think a class should be fixed into its class identity (Artificers/Clockwork Mages/Mechanicians have constructs, Binders have pacts, Incarnates have soulmelds, Truenamers have utterances, and Psions have disciplines, etc, etc.
