Why do people take such a big issue with spell banning?

Nine is good enough. ;)

Also, Mt. Doom would probably have been well guarded and you can't just fly there without being spotted. Frodo and Sam got in because nobody knew they were there and because there was a huge battle at the black gate to which all available troops in Gorgoroth had been diverted. And even with all the distractions, Sauron still spoted them in time but there were no troops to stop them.

There are some cracks and dents in the plot, but it's not a hole.

The Nazgul only got their flying mounts after their horses were drowned at Rivendell, so if they had used the eagles early on, they wouldn't have faced the Nine in the air.

So they still could have bypassed orc hordes and gotten to Gondor safely, right?

From where they could have just catapulted the ring into Mt. Doom? (Points if you get that reference.)

-I find that most bans are acceptable, as long as they're reasonable and explained in advance.
-but every once in a while you run into a player with an epic-level sense of entitlement
