Sorry about the no-shows! What's Mirliton Casserole?

We had pork loin and turkey breast, cornbread and apple dressing, roasted potatoes and onions, squash, green bean casserole, butter rolls, cranberry sauce, 2 kinds of gravy, a huge appetizer spread with olives and cheeses and smoked oysters and such, plus apple pie and ice cream.

And there were only 4 of us!

Mirliton- a.k.a. Chayote- is a kind of squash. We sautee it with green & yellow onions, garlic, celery, parsley, shrimp and bread crumbs, then bake it a while.

Sounds like you guys had yourself quite a feast, too!

Wow, I need to come to your place for Thanksgiving!

We had a big meal as well for 15 people. It was pretty good but since it was done by my sister's in laws the food wasn't prepared as well as I'm used to.

Well, Cro, if the food wasn't as good as you like, I guess you'll be cooking it next year? :)

Merliton sounds a lot like yellow squash or zucchini, from what I read online. I wonder if I can find it at HEB? My veggie-hating hubby might try it if I don't tell him what it is until after he eats it! (He does like zucchini, so it wouldn't be totally mean).

My wife and I cooked for a dozen this year. Let's see what we had.

White bean dip for browned chorizo
Stuffed mushrooms
Turkey
Turkey gravy (I mention this separately, because this stuff takes a couple days to produce)
Homemade cranberry sauce - none of that canned junk!
Buttermilk mashed potatoes
Biscuit stuffing
Creamed spinach
Roasted green beans with red onions, walnuts and orange dressing
Pumpkin bread pudding, with homemade whipped cream
Apple Cranberry pie
Chocolate-dipped pecan-pie bars
