D&D 3E/3.5 Converting old Modules to 3.5 help.

I'm currently converting KotB to 3.5 and having trouble finding some of the monsters. could use some help.
and yes I know about the conversion guide, just thought I could get some better Ideas here.
I have most of the Keep done and am working on the adventures outside the keep
specifically the Black Widow encounter.

I havent played in some time and now I am getting back into it.

My first inclination is to go to the MM and use a monstrous spider for it.
from the d&d basic boxed set I have a 3 HD monster that is 6' long

any Ideas?

I am going to try a direct conversion and compare it to what is in the MM

A monstrous spider from the MM/SRD is probably a decent enough conversion. There's also a separate conversion at the Vaults of Pandius that just modifies the poison.

EDIT: Incidentally, EN World's own Creature Catalog has a lot of old monster conversions if you're looking for any more.
 

In doing my conversion of the black widow I found that it falls between med monstrous spider and large monstrous spider.
I checked out the creature catalog but didnt find what I was looking for.

the conversion books formula for speed doesnt work here {old speed X 2.5 X10=new speed}
