I get to see the night sky quite a bit. I also live in an area with a couple of major airports and more than a few small ones, and grew up n and around military bases, so I am familiar with the way aircraft look at night.
Over the past few months, thought, I've seen something I don't recognize: some kind of aircraft with either slowly blinking or non-blinking red lights. No other illumination.
These aren't towers or antennas- I know where those are in my area (and the objects are too high in the sky anyway); they are in motion.
Does that ring a bell?
