Artifacts...

Okay this is a strange question. I've pretty much worked out a deal with my group (I'm a Player Char.) that allows me to take any one magical item that I want from the current campaign we are in, without question. Now we are playing the city of the spider queen campaign for toril. I know that the end boss has an artifact (that info slipped from the DM's lips). Now my question is, does an artifact have to be destroyed in a lot of pre made campaigns? If not I kinda want this one. I have no idea what it does, and thats not the question. Will this item, without giving the story line away, more than likely have to be destroyed?

It depends if your character is good or evil. I don't see how a good character could justify using the artifact, but an evil one would have no problem. Dunno about a neutral character.

Unless the artifacts from the DMG and ELH exist in your campaign, you'll want to take a FR-specific artifact, right?

Hmm... What's your character class?

I'm a level 13 wizard/ level 1 archmage

I know this statement will be on the wrong board but ummm, that is impossible. You can't qualify to take archmage at 13th level, you qualify to take it at 14th level, so you can only take it at 15th level. It's the spellcraft prereq for the class. You need 17 ranks in spellcraft which you can't get until you are 14th level. Since you choose skills after you choose your class you would have had to take another level of wizard before archmage. Now this is barring house rules and all of course. =o)

Archmage

Requirements...

Spellcasting: Ability to cast 7th-level arcane spells, knowledge of 5th-level or higher spells from at least five schools. (At level 13 you can cast one 7th level spell per day, not including bonus spells or specialization)

Skills: Knowledge (arcana) 15 ranks, Spellcraft 15 ranks. (At level 13, max skill ranks for class skills is 16)

Feats: Skill Focus (Spellcraft), Spell Focus in two schools of magic. (Bases covered here.)

So anywhos I think that you are wrong....

Back to my original question...

Correct; Acm requires you only to be a Wiz13.

Anyway...

So you're a wizard, then. Ok, very good - just what I hoped. :D

In that case, ask your DM for a Naga Crown (its 3e stats are in Magic of Faerun).

It's a Major Artifact (although a few, rather than just one, exist) that, among other things, doubles your arcane spells per day (does not stack with rings of wizardry and whatnot, of course, and bonus spells from Int, being a specialist, etc. probably aren't doubled, either). It also allows you spell turning on mental command.

Hope it helps! :)

Ouch, that's a VERY powerful item for a wizard... maybe even too powerful, even for an artifact.
