I have never been able to find a complete WotC 3rd edition magic item index that can be used in an Excel spreadsheet format so that we have easy control over sorting. The few indexes that do exist are also incomplete and reference very few books. I came here asking for help creating one, but I never got any responses. So for the past several months, I compiled the list on my own. It even includes things like magical locations, vehicles, artifacts, cursed items, grafts, and constructs. If it was magical and could benefit a character, I wrote it down.
All I care to have is the item name, the book with page number, the price, and a brief description of what the item does. I am not trying to infringe on copyright material. The brief description is included just so I have an idea for what the item is and if it is an item that I want to read about in the book.
I have indexed everything, but I'm still missing the short descriptions for most items since that requires more work and I at least wanted to have the list of items available for now. The DMG and Magic Item Compendium are completely finished, so that's a good chunk of work that doesn't need to be dealt with.
What I'm hoping for now is to actually get some help finishing up the short descriptions. I've done the list for you, provided page numbers and market prices, and if some kind souls would give me a hand with the rest, we could have the best magic item index on the internet. I will use my spreadsheet skills to format it for players/DMs to be able to search for items by book, price, type, etc, etc. I might even be able to format it to be used as a random item generator based off of how the Magic Item Compendium determines random magic items.
This could be extremely helpful to both players and DMs. Imagine how well you could equip your PCs/NPCs using this spreadsheet. There are probably a ton of items you never even knew existed and would love to have for your character. You will even be able to customize the index all you want. Even the (incomplete) indexes already on the web don't give you that ability.
I have also indexed every magic item from the 3rd edition Dragon Magazines and I have gone through about half of the Dungeon Magazines so far.
