So, what's this "Opening Gates of Hades" thing? My wife just tried it with her Siri, and got this answer. I've looked through Google for an explanation, but there doesn't seem to be anything but speculation.

That makes no sense with a Greek mythological reference.

It appears that it happens to some, but not all iPhone users.

Its because Siri thinks Hades = Hell = The lower realms = the realms of the dead, etc.

Ramadan ends on either July 28 or July 29 this year (based o the lunar phase). During Ramadan the gates of heaven are open and the gates of hell are closed (to prevent demons from entering heaven). So, when Ramadan ends, what do you think happens to the gates of hell?

The Chinese Ghost Festival also begins on July 27th this year. Its believed that the gates of heaven and hell are open during this festival so that the spirits of the dead can visit the living.

July 27th is also Gary Gygax Day, the date of his birth back in 1938.

Or maybe it's a viral marketing scheme for a new D&D setting.
