Okay, it looks like I can get a similar look, feel, and background for the character by using the Falconer archetype for Ranger, which
is on the info from the PRD link. My only question is figuring out the Bird companion's Hit Points. The archetype says the companion has half the Hit Points, not half the Hit Dice, which is an important distinction. 1st level companions get 2 HD (d8). I assume full HP for the first die, but how are you planning on having us determine Hit Points past level 1? Full, Average, Max -2? Let me know on that one and I can figure out birdie's real Hit Points. Otherwise, have a looksee:

[sblock=Background]Thrown into the streets by his human grandfather when his orcish traits manifested, Wireth spent much of his early life scraping and scavenging to get by. The abuse of the locals quickly sent him into the woods, where he watched from afar those who shared half his blood, fearing that his visible heritage would only lead to more pain at their hands.
He was, unfortunately, all too right. After an orc raid on the town, a mob of angry humans took to the wood looking for vengeance, and soon found Wireth in his cave. Though his natural strength was impressive, the number of enemies, fueled by seething hate, made the fight quite short. The young boy cowered, awaiting the death of a monster his grandfather always told him he'd meet.
It was then that Salelu arrived on one of her self-dictated patrols. With skill and precision, she gave the mob back the pain it had meted, and slipped away with the battered youth. She saw nothing of the monstrosity in his blood, and instead trained him to best use his natural talents.
Wireth soon left, self-sufficient and no longer self-loathing (though he still has trouble not seeing humans as a threat to be navigated). He embraced his heritage by taking up a traditional orc weapon and decorating his body with the sacred tattoos of his people -- about whom Shalelu taught him. Her eyes for worth in the scorned rubbed off on him, and he took on a wounded turkey vulture, Nairo, nursing it to health and teaching it the skills of its more revered raptor cousins. [/sblock]
