I started gaming with Holmes and AD&D 1e but 2e was certainly "my edition" I had the best games and campaigns and the most fun with it over any other edition including 3x/Pathfinder.
The rules were a tad wonky in places but it simply worked. Heck I last played back in 2007 or so and I'd play again in a heartbeat but only face to face.
Rules wise I liked kits when used carefully, the proficiency system , the HD cap and a lot of other facets of the game.
There were a couple of things I didn't care for , thieves "skills" in lieu of a more comprehensive system and fighter THAC0 scaling past 10th level or so but they were never show stoppers and there was so much good stuff that a few tiny tweaks could make it into something that suited me perfectly.
