D&D 5E (Spoilers) Question about Starter Set adventure

So first off, SPOILER ALERT! If you are going to play in this adventure, get out now.

That said:

[sblock]In area 19 of Wave Echo Cave, the second set of boxed text reads, "Two bugbears stand by the table, flanking a dark elf..." Yet the non-boxed text calls out Nezznar the Black Spider and four giant spiders. Are there supposed to be two bugbears there, as well?[/sblock]

If you have run LMoP, how did you handle this seeming discrepancy?

Probably as written, the boxed text plus the creatures that join them.

Seems like a suitable boss fight for 4th or 5th level adventurers.

I thought the box-only characters were hidden?

I would run it the same as jodyjohnson described.

The 'boxed' text (which is actually only "flanked" by vertical lines) is called "boxed text" and is the classic readaloud stuff, like in 1e modules, where it actually was in a box. Perhaps you mean the non-boxed text things? It's possible, but I'm pretty sure that every other encounter in the adventure mentions the monsters in the non-boxed text, even if it also mentions them in the boxed text.

I'll probably run it with everything, just because I'm a meanie.
