D&D 5E Exodus

First Post
Juno gives the white-coats an annoyed glance, then focuses on the alien. She shakes her head in negation.

"Juno," she corrects, pointing at herself. "Juno." Warily, the soldier releases her prisoner's wrist, pries her own wrist free, then points at her. "Who are you?"

Points at self again, "Juno." Then back at her...and just an expectant silence.

@Brother Dave, are you still with us?

The demon woman nods in understanding and points to Juno, "Yuno." Her fangs seem to make the "j" sound difficult to pronounce so "Yuno" is likely as close as she is going to get.

She then points to herself and says, "Yuno cognomentum."

Babington is fairly certain that the demon is asking Juno to give her a name.

The demon woman's blood, upon initial analysis, is very similar to human blood, but with something in it, akin to a virus, but not harmful, that Trace and the other scientists have never seen before. Whatever it is will require further, in-depth analysis.

The marine in charge of rounding up all the witnesses, Staff Sergeant Almerton, stops by the lab with a copy of Dr. Sanduine's video recording, "Hey folks, sorry to interrupt, but do any of you know who this is? He's not on the ship's official register?"

The recording is paused on Carter.

Thus Concludes Episode One

Next time on Exodus, the demon's true nature is revealed and the crew of Ark 17 discover mysterious changes in some of them...what will happen when one of the changed decides to take the ship's future in to their own hands?

Stay tuned for the next exciting episode!

Three Weeks Later

The demon woman has chosen to identify herself only as Demon. She has picked up some English and can communicate basic concepts but has been reluctant to talk to anyone but Juno and Airman Babington. Colonel Harrington has insisted Demon be kept in the brig as he's not convinced she isn't a threat.

Carter has been found by the ship's marines and is currently being held in the brig, in the cell next to Demon's ironically. Trace has been called in to the Colonel's office and asked some uncomfortable questions about Carter. For the time being, Trace is still on the "Demon Project" but Harrington is less than pleased.

Via clues gathered from research and information gathered from Demon, herself, Dr. Sanduine has pieced together that Demon is, or at least claims to be, a descendant of literal demons, part of a family line that made a pact of some sort several generations ago. Interestingly, Demon indicates that the family was originally human, though not from Earth.

Biologically, Demon is, in fact, almost completely human, but the mysterious x-factor in her blood, originally thought to be a virus, is actually an energy of some sort, captured and contained within her blood cells.

Mysterious things have begun to happen on the ship. All those "called" to the hyperdrive that day three weeks ago have begun to manifest unusual abilities of various sorts.

As part of his "in-processing," Carter had a blood sample drawn and the medical crew find the same strange energy in his blood as Demon's. Further tests show that everyone who has been manifesting strange abilities has varying levels of the same energy in their blood - including Juno, Trace, Babington, and Sanduine.

Harrington calls the "Demon Project" team to the central command center. He points to a monitor where another Ark can be seen.

"External cameras picked that up about an hour ago. Markings indicate that its Ark 42, but she looks to be adrift. No signs of power. I'm planning on sending a team over to investigate. Specifically, I'm thinking of sending you four, given your newly developed talents."

"Yes Sir." Airman Babington responds to Colonel Harrington's briefing as he stands at ease. "You said there's no sign of power over there sir? So no transmissions or communications either? Have they been able to see if she's intact and holding her atmosphere, sir?" he rattles off a few quick questions that come to mind while he reels inside at the thought of being shipped over there to what must be a ghost ship if there's no power at all. He already has enough ghosts lurking in his head, he doesn't want to experience more death and destruction again so soon after they just escaped the battle of Earth. It has to be important though. Maybe there are lives there that can be saved. Maybe, just maybe, he can start balancing the scales against the lives which he cost the universe already. Getting control of himself again, Babington gets back on task and asks the defining question of the day, "What are our mission objectives on-board the other Ark, sir?"

OOC: Going to write Trace out for now as Brother Dave is MIA it seems.

Trace holds up his hands, "Better make that three. I have some important labwork to get done. Why not take the Demon?"

Colonel Harrington looks at Juno and Babington, "What do you think? Can she be trusted? Regardless, I'm going to send a squad of marines with you. Make sure they all make it back alive."

In response to Babington he says, "There aren't any hull breaches so there should be air, though it might be stale. You'll take some O2 tanks with you just in case. You'll be looking for survivors and anything we can scavenge to replenish our own supplies. Find out what happened over there if you can, but that's strictly secondary. Got it?"

Juno frowns at that. Deeply. "We still don't know anything about her really. What she can do, what she wants... She does what I say, but that could just be something to make us feel safe so we give her an opening."

She shakes her head. "She'd be a liability. We'd have to keep an eye on her AND on the surroundings. Is there a reason we can't send a full squad over?"

Airman Babington nods at Juno's first comments, but he decides to challenge her final request for more men to go with them. "I agree that taking Demon could prove to be a fatal mistake, but we ARE going with a squad of marines to cover our backs. A small, tactical unit, especially with our 'special' skills that we've been developing, should be able to get some intel and get back here. Too many and we're sure to be spotted - if there's even something over there to spot us. We don't have to explore everything ourselves and carry everything back ourselves, just get to the bridge or engineering and find out what happened if we can, get a general recon to see if there are supplies worth mounting the effort to recover, then come back. We can handle this." he looks to Juno to see if he's won her over with his arguments.
