Summoned Monsters Galore

Summon spells are especially good in the hands of mid to high level casters who can call them up just before a battle starts and still have them hang around a good while. I've usually used them a lot for my NPC spellcasters in my Planescape campaign, though the PC's rarely used them. For instance, in one battle (the Arcanatum leadership vs. the PC's party), the Arcanatum spellcasters whipped out a red slaad, an elemental or two, and some fiendish dire wolf or something, that acted as a good fodder screen while the mostly invisible foes moved into better positions and unleashed long ranged attacks.

Besides invisibility, the Sage (Skip WIlliams) rules that casting SUmmon Monster spells while hasted is a full-round action, rather than a spell that takes a full round. Now, while hasted, a wizard can toss off 2 spells or 1 monster per round!
