Nope. I just don't want to talk about how I have this great thing I love, only to find the only recipe I have for it is crap. Might as well not exist if I cannot make it, you see.

That's a negative way to look at it.

NPR had an article about some lost family recipe from the old country, and it turned out somebody knew of it, and was able to recreate it.

So, in my view, you should describe/define the dishes and what culture they were from, and you might get lucky and somebody will recognize it and have a recipe or two. It might not be the same, or it might be close, and you can fine tune it.

Just gotta have hope man.

My Mom's mother made a family dish of dried corn. Basically, corn kernals were roasted dry and stored in a cotton sack until ready to be eaten, sometimes years later. They're then re-constituted with cream. I nevr ate is as a kid but my aunt has the sack and still had some of teh corn which we had for Thanksgiving last year.
