Metamagic feat: Trim Spell

Trim Spell [Metamagic]

Prerequisites: Knowledge (Arcana) 5 ranks.

You may cast a spell that effects a single target in range so that it instead limited to a "personal" effect. All other parameters of the spell remain the same, save those altered by other metamagic feats. Casting a spell in this manner raises the spell level by 1.

Why +1, you ask? Personal range spells are compatible with Persistant spell. Kick this around, tell me what you think.

Out of curriosity, what spell did you run across that made you say "Oh my God! I sooooooo want to be able to cast that on myself!!!"

You can already do this for free. The caster is always in range of a spell in 3e. Technically, a character could cast Hold Person on himself, but that's usually rather silly.

For exactly this reason I wouldn't allow that proposed metamagic.

I have to point out that your prereq is pointless - it merely prevents this metamagic being taken at 1st level, since all magic users pretty much pump up knowledge arcana as a default skill. Wouldn't you want personal ranged cantrips?

Cheers
