There he was, all alone for one glorious moment. Alone, yes, but not lonely. Aleksander had never been lonely in his life. People orbited him like moons, pulling him every direction. Slowing him down. Changing him.
Heads up. One is coming.
He looked up, and a moment later his field of vision followed. The almost imperceptible delay in his visual feedback was slightly nauseating. The Matrix isn't all it's cracked up to be, he grumbled internally. But outwardly, his icon smiled. In life he was physically unremarkable. But here in the Matrix, he was Poseidon himself, muscular, bare chested, marvelously bearded and wielding a golden trident. Gliding toward him was a generic, vaugely male icon, clearly a comlink "default" icon. Two more males and a female followed, all mostly indistinguishable from each other.
"Welcome, Runners," Aleksander greets the group. "Your punctuality is appreciated. First order of business is introductions."
Note: at this time, characters may take a simple action to change their icon, if they are viewing the Matrix through VR or AR. Describe how your icon appears to the other players. It will represent your "digital" self while you are in the Matrix. The icon can be changed later if you wish. If you do not have a VR or AR connection to the Matrix, you're stuck with your default, boring icon! You will be viewing this meeting through a screen, instead of being actively digitally projected into it.
Aleksander's icon flickers before the group, indicating that there is some interference in his signal. He's likely very far away from the rest of the runners, who are all surprisingly solid from each others' perspective. This indicates that the group are all pretty close to each other in physical space, although the Runners have never met before.
Aleksander indicates each of the icons in turn, providing a brief introduction for each of them. "Meet Casper," he says, indicating the female icon. "Infiltration specialist." He then nods toward each of the male icons in turn. "Skinny and Saint are combat specialists. Last but not least, Heartbreak is an electronics genius and Matrix wiz." Aleksander lets the group absorb the information before proceeding straight to business.
"I won't waste any more of your time. Here's the job. Daphne Leblanc is a spokeswoman for Crash Test Industries, a corp specializing in the sale and manufacture of professional sporting goods. She's about to announce a new product called "Pow!", a caffeinated soft drink. Crash Test Industries' competitors are paying big money to make sure the press conference doesn't go as planned. Your job is to sabotage the presentation. They don't care how, as long as it looks clean. No blowing things up, no killing people on camera, nothing that makes it look like CTI was sabotaged. Of course behind the scenes you can cause mayhem to your heart's desire, but the client has made it absolutely clear that under no circumstances can they permit it to be known that corps are in open warfare. If you think you can pull it off, it's worth 30,000 nuyen to divide between you, after my cut. I can't give you any more details unless you agree to the job. So, what do you say Runners? Do we have a deal?"
Note: Each of you has worked with Aleksander before, and you each have your own personal history with him. You know he's a tough bargainer, but you also know that "final offers" are very rarely actually final.
