[March 2015] What Are You Reading?

So, another month, another thread.

I've just finished up reading "Things Don't Go Smooth" for the Firefly RPG, which was okay. (I've done a review if you want to follow the link <--- )

I'm now reading through "The Jedi Doth Return", the third and final Shakespearean Star Wars. It's pretty good fun, although as with the "Family Guy" episodes, I think it may be one parody too far. Plus, the medium doesn't do action sequences too well, which doesn't bode well for Acts IV and V with the assault on the second Death Star. (Oh, sorry - spoilers. :) )

After that, I'm going to tackle the latest Pathfinder AP, which is the first volume of Giantslayer. I'm now starting to question how long I keep this subscription going - I now have 20ish adventure paths of various sorts and am unlikely to ever run any of them, so how many do I really need?

I hope to get through both of those by the end of this weekend, after which it's back to "The Secret History", which is okay but which hasn't inspired me to progress very fast, and then back to "Gone With the Wind" which is also sitting quarter-read. I'm not sure how I got into that position - I generally prefer to read a book completely and then tackle the next, but currently have two books in-progress.

After that, time permitting, I think I'll read Cornwell's "The Pagan Lord" - one of the books I didn't get around to reading last year. But it doesn't look likely I'll get that far.

Just started Karen Memory by Elizabeth Bear. http://www.amazon.com/Karen-Memory-...8&qid=1425487419&sr=8-1&keywords=karen+memory

Also picked up Finn Fancy Necromancy - looked interesting. http://www.amazon.com/Finn-Fancy-Ne...5487435&sr=1-1&keywords=finn+fancy+necromancy

Just finished The Invisible Library (had to special order from the UK). Fun, described as having a Doctor Who vibe which I agree with. http://www.amazon.com/Invisible-Lib...=1425487501&sr=1-1&keywords=invisible+library

Just finished An Unwelcome Quest audiobook. http://www.audible.com/pd/Sci-Fi-Fantasy/An-Unwelcome-Quest-Audiobook/B00S5HOIL2

I recently started reading Codex Alera III: Cursor's Fury, by Jim Butcher. A very entertaining series so far, mixing action and politics in a fantasy world with similitudes to the Roman Empire (apparently, Butcher wrote it after being challenged to make a good story involving two horrible or overused tropes. In specific: "Lost Roman Legion" and "Pokemon").

Also reading Moving Pictures, by Terry Pratchett.

Finished 2nd Chance and most of the way thru 4th of July by Patterson. Looking at the shelf for a non Patterson novel but nothing is grabbing my attention yet.

I'm currently reading FFG's Edge of the Empire and Age of Rebellion core rulebooks in parallel in preparation for starting a new campaign (yay!).

Finished Elak of Atlantis (Henry Kuttner) and Ancillary Sword (Ann Leckie). Did not finish The Genome, by Sergio Lukyanenko. Was getting way too sexist for me. Not a fun read. Read a bunch of other books this month, but don't remember all of them. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is probably next.

Just finished The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

I'm not sure if I've ever felt so much like pumping my fist and cheering at the end of a book as I did that one. Hell yeah! Anne Bronte died far, far too young. Excellent, excellent book.

Have tentatively selected The Six Wives of Henry VIII, by Alison Weir, to read next, and follow that up with Bring up the Bodies, by Hilary Mantel. Since they deal with the same people and events, hopefully it'll help me keep straight who's stabbing who in the back. Or whose head is getting whacked off, as the case may be.
