Enjoying! Love your work, Jacob. Unfortunately, my current 5e character is a fighting hobbit. So I guess that means multiclassing is in my near future.

Yes, please. In fact, the naming convention suggests that FF5 and D&D (5th ed) are a match made in heaven...or ExDeath world?

Just don't go beyond FF5. That's when the Final Fantasy ended, as far as I'm concerned.

I don't know, I've commented before that 4e is the FF13 of D&D. 5e might be the FF9, with its retro aims.

Terra cries at everything. Some deal-breakers in that one for me:
    - WarMechs
    - The whole haunted train scene. Ugh.
    - Spending hours, fruitlessly, trying to get Gau a decent power on the Veldt.

Anyway, Kamikaze, I'm changing Abilities for my FF5 crew when I realize: a good way to make D&D5 feel like FF would be to limit the combat actions that each character can take. Knights can use Dodge, Thieves can use Disengage, Bards can use Hide...

    So awesome!

I would love to play this, although it actually makes me want to play FF again instead of D&D. And then D&D FF style! dayum.

One thing in your PDF that really hit home was the idea that different towns in differently challenging zones had different gold piece valued items. But your idea to make a gp to proficiency bonus rating is inspired. It's very videogamey in a good way. I kind of miss that aspect of collecting gold to upgrade gear. In 5th edition there are only basically two steps to buy after starting gold, 500gp armor and 6000gp armor. Beyond that, there's no standard equipment price increase. You can buy the best non magical sword in the entire kingdom at level 1. They at least had the right idea with plate armor costing a lot, but it stopped there. Two handed swords should cost at least a couple hundred gold. Or maybe all the weapons in the PHB break on a natural 1 and take cumulative minuses to damage after every three battles unless they are sharpened by someone with the skill.

You need a sink in the economy and the D&D economy stinks. All the prices are out of whack, plate armor is fine but there should be several other things that could be really good. At least differentiate by metal. Like bronze, iron, steel, adamantium weapons. Also by craftsmanship.

You've given me a lot of ideas for my own campaign that I think my players will like. I haven't toyed with the equipment table much but I very much like buying better equipment and having something to spend gold on. That's the thing with 4e, players at least had a reason to collect gold, even though it ended up making magic seem dull and commonplace. In 5e magic items are rare and special, but gold collects in people's banks for retirement, there is no reason or incentive or even possibility to reinvest it in better stuff.

    Where is Protect??

I love this PDF and was wanting to run a FF game for my friends. After reading everything over, I noticed that the spell, "Protect" is listed in the White Mage spell list, but there is no description on how it works.

Does it provide an AC bonus or does it, like it other FF games, reduce physical damage in half?

I'll probably chalk it up like this:

    Protect
1st level abjuration spell (2 MP)
    Range: 60 ft
    Target: One creature
    Duration: 1 minute
Effect: Target gains resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage. Whenever the target takes damage from any of the sources, they roll 1d20- on a 9 or less, the spell ends.

I'd also like to see Regen in here. I know it wasn't in FF1, but I think it would work if you're running a FF game in general. I know 5E has the Regeneration spell, I'm just looking for something smaller, per se.

    Regen
3rd level transmutation spell (5 MP)
    Range: 60 ft
    Target: One creature
    Duration: 1 minute
Effect: Target regains 2d6 HP at the start of their turn.
