Yeah, art can be an enormous expense. My WOIN Kickstarter, once it funded, immediately paid out $20K for art.

Here's a good example to the rule of thumb I mentioned. Did you have all your writing pretty much done before you launched the kickstarter for WOIN?

So basically, the money was needed to buy the art and publish?

From what I can tell, folks who don't have as much as they could do without the money done before they get the money, end up spending more time once it funds, getting all that basic labor done which runs the clock and increases the chance they'll miss deadline or run out of steam before they can launch and thus the project fails.
