The Gyaos are a species of flesh eating, leathery-winged avians with a taste for intelligent species and destruction. If fed well enough, they can grow into kaiju.

A gyaos is about 40 feet long, with a wingspan about three or four times that length. Their thick leathery skin is brown and rubbery, capable of turning away most blows. Its head is sharply triangular, and the eyes are protected by a shelf of bone on the top of the skull.

What few sages realize is that the number of gyaos in existence is directly proportionate to the health of the planet. Spells that destroy vast tracts of landscape or drain the atmosphere create gyaos, as does the pollution of rivers and oceans with mundane or magical waste. Whether gyaos are an unintentional by-product of these depredations, or a creation of the gods of earth to punish these transgressions is unknown. What is known, however, is that gyaos have rapid metabolisms and a taste for meat, especially that of humans. Their metabolisms are so rapid that they actually grow in size and power by eating. If a gyaos eats enough, it grows to be about one-hundred feet tall, and it grows to a strength approaching that of the most powerful kaiju.

Combat
All gyaos, no matter the size, delight in terrorizing humans. They usually swoop down onto prey, biting and swallowing it, before grabbing another victim. Some gyaos can devour entire caravans before returning to its nest to digest its meal. They reserve their breath weapons for opponents of greater strength, such as other kaiju. Gyaos working cooperatively to fall greater prey is not unheard of.

Breath Weapon (Su): Every 1d4 rounds, a gyaos may unleash a powerful screech. The unusual triple voice box of a gyaos creates a powerful resonating field, causing the screech to manifest itself as a line of destructive sonic energy. This breath weapon takes the form of a line 15ft high, 15ft wide and 300ft long. This breath weapon deals 10d6 points of sonic damage (20d6 for a greater gyaos) (Reflex DC 22 [DC 50 for greater gyaos] for half damage).

Evasion (Ex): If exposed to any effect that normally allows a Reflex save for half damage, a gyaos takes no damage on a successful save.

Feed (Su): When a gyaos slays an opponent, it may devour the corpse as a full round action, consuming both body and soul. This occurs automatically if the victim died after being swallowed whole. For every 8 HD consumed, it gains 1 Hit Die. When a gyaos reaches 46 HD in this matter, it is transformed into a greater gyaos. Feeding destroys the victim’s body, thus preventing any form of raising or resurrecting that requires part of the corpse. A wish, miracle, or true resurrection can restore a devoured victim to life, but even this powerful magic has a 50% chance of failure.

Improved Grab (Ex): Whenever a gyaos hits an opponent of Medium-size or smaller with a bite attack, or a greater gyaos hits an opponent hits a Huge or smaller opponent with a bite attack, it can make a grapple check as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity (grapple bonus +33, +91 for a greater gyaos). If it gets a hold, it may conduct the grapple normally, dealing bite damage every round it maintains the hold, it may grapple using only its jaws (-20 to all grapple checks, but the gyaos is not considered grappled), or it may swallow the opponent whole.

Swallow Whole (Ex): By making a successful grapple check, a gyaos may swallow a held foe whole. Once swallowed, a victim takes 2d8+10 (+20 for a greater gyaos) plus 3d6 acid damage every round until it escapes or dies. A successful grapple check allows the creature to climb out of the stomach and into the gyaos’ mouth, where another grapple check is required to get free. Alternatively, the swallowed creature can escape by cutting its way out with either claws or a light slashing or piecing weapon. Dealing at least 50 points of damage (AC 20) in this fashion allows the creature to escape. Once a single swallowed creature exits, muscular action closes the whole; another swallowed creature must cut its way out as well. A gyaos’ stomach can hold 2 Medium-sized, 4 Small , 16 Tiny, or 32 Diminutive or smaller creatures; a greater gyaos can hold 2 Huge, 4 Large, 16 Medium-sized, 32 Small or 64 Tiny or smaller creatures. Any creatures killed in the gyaos’ stomach are considered automatically affected by the feed ability.

Wingstorm (Ex): Only greater gyaoses have this ability. As a move-equivalent action, a greater gyaos may fan its wings as to create a 100ft cone of air that acts as a hurricane (see page 87 of the DMG). It can do this for as many rounds as it chooses to.

Feats: The Improved Fly-by Attack feat allows a greater gyaos to make a flyby attack without provoking an attack of opportunity.

Both the Gyaos and Gamera statistics are excelent. I don't know very much about the Gamera series, I'm mainly a Godzilla person. But these kaijus are awesome, keep up the good work.

Arc

First Post
Just watched the first movie, so I've got a basis to critique from.

Nothing here that seems too out of place, but I'm a bit weirded by the save/AC breakdowns of the Gyaos. For the most part, both lesser and greater Gyaos depended on dodging attacks, rather than soaking them. A dexterity of 15 seems far too low, and the low reflex saves and AC of both incarnations seems a bit odd. It's no mean feat to dodge guided SAM missles, and an AC of 43, most of it natural (Greater Gyaos) doesn't fit. Neither does the reflex save of +29.

Tidbit: The DR 15/Cold Iron of the Lesser Gyaos seems a bit high for a CR 14, but that's just me.

Good work everywhere else though, this is some great stuff.
