4 out of 5 rating for The Sixth Doctor Sourcebook

The Sixth Doctor Sourcebook faced challenges, much like Colin Baker's era itself. The Sourcebook had the challenge of outlining a Doctor whose adventures' quantity are reduced and their quality in dispute by some fans. It took me several episodes to warm up to Colin Baker. I found him to be a better Doctor than his reputation stands amongst some fans. He is a difficult and irascible character, but ultimately likable and heroic. The shortness of his tenure posed am problem for this sourcebook: how to flesh it all out? This is a problem faced by the next several Doctors, six through nine. While some of the earlier sourcebooks have struggled with towing the line between verbosity and brevity, this sourcebook's only real downside is that the adventure sections feel overly long. As a episode guide, that works. As an RPG document meant to be used during play, it's a bit cumbersome and wordy. The book is peppered with useful stats on nearly everything covered in the adventure, possibly a function of making sure the page length requirements are met. And that's what makes it a pretty good sourcebook: lots of good information for GMs. As an added bonus, there is a four page appendix that provides adventure seeds to tie the Sixth Doctor's adventures to the Time War. This is a cool section for fans of the new Doctor Who Era to bridge the gap between the classic series and the new series. It helps players and GMs explore the largely unknown war that is so crucial to the continuity of the new series. All in all, this is a worthy sourcebook for an under-appreciated era of the show.
