UPDATED WITH FINALS: CBS drama “Supergirl” came back to earth in its second week as it moved to its leadoff position on Monday, falling more from its premiere than most new shows but remaining a solid second in its timeslot and an improvement over last year’s comedies. NBC won the night among the broadcasters behind “The Voice” and “Blindspot,” with the latter tying “Supergirl” as the night’s No. 1 scripted series among young adults.
Looking at the numbers, “Supergirl” averaged a 2.2 rating/7 share in adults 18-49 and 8.86 million viewers overall in the 8 o’clock hour, down 0.9 in the demo (or 29%) from its debut of last week and by about the same in total viewers; it did the same 2.2 rating in both the male and female side of the demo. A sizable decline for “Supergirl” is not a surprise since it no longer had a lead-in from “The Big Bang Theory” and there was so much anticipation for the show’s premiere, but it will need to stabilize if it’s to remain in the hunt as the season’s top new show.
Compared to the 8 o’clock hour on the opening Monday of November last year, “Supergirl” was up 16% in the demo (from 1.9) and 20% in total viewers (from 7.4 million) vs. “2 Broke Girls” and “The Millers.”
The premiere of “Supergirl” last week stood as the fall’s top-rated launch in 18-49, 25-54 and total viewers. It remained No. 1 in total viewers in Live+3 estimates (surpassing 16 million), but ended up No. 2 among premieres in the demos behind NBC’s “Blindspot.” In its second week, “Blindspot” limited its 18-49 decline to 16% (2.6 rating).

“Supergirl” was followed last night on CBS by “Scorpion” (1.9/5 in 18-49, 9.51 million viewers overall), which matched last week’s 90-minute average and seems to be benefiting from its drama lead-in. “NCIS: Los Angeles” closed out the night with a 1.3/4 in 18-49 and 8.41 million viewers overall, tying its season high in the demo.
ESPN won the night with “Monday Night Football,” as its matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers averaged a 4.6 rating in adults 18-49 and 12.40 million viewers overall, up a little in both categories from last year. In the overnights, the game peaked in the second quarter, so a lot of viewers weren’t there for the Colts’ late rally and the exciting conclusion in overtime, where the Panthers prevailed 29-26 to remain perfect on the season.
At NBC, “The Voice” (3.3/10 in 18-49, 12.06 million viewers overall) was up 0.2 from last week to match a five week-high and stand as Monday’s No. 1 entertainment program in 18-49. “Blindspot” (2.2/7 in 18-49, 8.02 million viewers overall) also edged up and continues to rule as the season’s No. 1 new program in key demos.
Fox’s “Gotham” (1.6/5 in 18-49, 4.27 million viewers overall) was up a tenth as it may have picked up some viewers who sampled “Supergirl” last week. And “Minority Report” held steady (0.6/2 in 18-49, 1.75 million viewers overall).
The CW had a good night, as both “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (0.28 rating in 18-49, 945,000 viewers overall) and “Jane the Virgin” (0.43 in 18-49, 1.095 million) drew their largest audiences of the fall. The network’s Monday averages have been hampered by football pre-emptions, but that wasn’t the case last night.
At ABC, “Dancing With the Stars” averaged a 1.9/5 in 18-49 and 12.09 million viewers overall, and the special “Countdown to the CMA Awards” could only muster a 0.8/3 and 4.98 million.
