Tsaaruk nods as Pirvinia explains Far’ziel found nothing and was continuing on. He hefted his hammer and prepared to move on into the next area that has been declared clear. Clearly tense and uncomfortable with letting another scout ahead while he waited.

Despite a certain amount of discomfort with Far'zeil scouting ahead from some of the other group members, the memphit is quick to repeat her previous trick and disappeared down the stairs, headed east. After a short while, she returned safely. The room ahead seemed to be similar to the one behind, running 30' wide and 50' long and looking like a secondary guard room as well, with both doors on the shorter (30') walls. There seemed to be a set of holes in the ceiling right before the passageway opens up into the room.

Locally, it's immediately obvious there is nothing, in terms of valuables, on the skeletonized human remains or in the carpentry closets.

Samad followed in shortly behind, looking around the room. Locking his gaze on the corpse, Samad asked, "Bones do not drift apart like that when the flesh rots away, do they?"

Far’ziel reported back in that private language again.

Pirvinia glanced at the scattered bones of the skeleton after Samad's comment,"Hmmm, that is odd is it not. One would expect that to have happened if the skeleton had been moved after decaying. It would suggest that someone has been here since the person died."

"Anyway, Far'ziel reports that the chamber at the bottom of the stairs is another guard room of sorts, with another door exiting on the far side. However there are some holes in the ceiling right before it opens up into the room. Mayhap that is some sort of defensive purpose. Does anyone know something about dealing with traps?"

Jonas quietly slides down the stairs until he arrives at the holes in question. They are in a single row across the top of the heavy door frame, approximately 6 inches apart from each other. Each is an inch and a half to two inches in diameter. Below each of them there is a cone-shaped indentation in the floor, the same diameter as the hole above. And, as near as he can tell, each has some sort pointed object recessed only an inch or two in the hole, and nothing can be seen through them in any way.

As for scent, Jonas can detect nothing that he would characterize as coming from a living thing. It is as if he and his comrades are the only things living in the two-thousand year old complex.

Beyond the door frame (and line of holes), a room 50 feet deep and 30 feet wide opens up. There is an exit on the far side, and this room is very similar to the first. There is another cabinet in poor condition, much like the first, and this room also contains a weapon rack as well. He can see several swords still in place.

Finally, Jonas can tell the passageway on the opposite side of the room leads further downward.

Pirvinia gave the assessment some thought and then gestured towards the stairs. She sent Far’ziel on ahead into the lower chamber with instructions to investigate towards the opposite exit.

Turning to the others she said, “In light of what Jonas has found, I think we can assume that it was more defensive and no a trap. Even if those bars do close on us, there must surely be a way to raise them from the inside.”

She followed after her mephit familiar if there were no objections.

Tsaaruk follows after Pirvinia. Trusting in her judgement he continues on into the next area. The orc moves along surely looking for danger but not really expecting any. It is more of a need for action that haunts him. He stays in check and for the moment in control, the rage just held back but ready spring forth and crush an enemy.
