Pathfinder 1E Piecemeal Armour opinions please

I am working on a new paladin character, and was fiddling with the piecemeal armour rules to see if I could get armour to look like the pic I have in mind.

Basically plate under a longcoat.

So, basically, for 85 gold my starting character gets the equivalent of platemail without the massive skill check penalty. Too much? Just right? Stop abusing the rules you damn munchkin?
