Looking up the lyrics of "We Know The Way," I found this:
( at

"Aue, aue
We are explorers reading every sign
We tell the stories of our elders in a never-ending chain
Aue, aue
Te fenua, te mālie
Nā heko hakilia
We know the way"
First, that's southern Polynesian, not Hawai'ian, because Hawai'ian doesn't contain an "F."
Second, I looked up "Aue" on Google Translate, and it said "Aue" translates into English as "Oh My God." Now I'm visualising latter-day Polynesians texting each other "OMG!" when they would otherwise say, "Aue." (Somehow, that's doesn't strike me as being too authentic. . . .)
Third, I had mis-heard the lyrics: I had supposed they were singing, "Away, Away, . . ." as a way to bespeak the fact that they were traveling far. My (English-centric) bad.
