The action and artistry in these trailers are spectacular, I'm excited:)

As I said in the vanished thread, the trailers jump about a fair bit. (Does Maui have his fishhook in this shot? No? How about the next shot?)

Moana-Pua-Hei-Hei, Maui-Kakamora,
Voyaging the old way, far from Bora-Bora.

The lyrics write themselves.

yeah, I did notice that. The various international trailers have slightly different shots which help to fill in a bit more information so I think I've got a clearer timeline in my head, even if it is really weird to listen to Maui and Moana speaking Russian - only 2 months and I can find out for sure:)

That's true, in the sense that it's unlike much of their prior work. For one example, Moana has no "ball gown." For another, the main villain is not human or humanoid, or anthropomorphic (e.g. Mayor Bellwether). For a third, there is no romance arc.

However, Moana is derivative of folk tales; and some of Disney's prior works have also been derivative of folk tales.

all of Disneys princesses are derivative of folktales including Brave (although very little bear folklore survived in Scotland after the 10th century)

Whats great about Moana is that the entire 'Princess' lynchpins of romantic love and 'saving the princess' has been removed and replace by a heroes journey/coming of age story with a dynamic female protagonist.

I'm sure Disney will still have its message of 'love of self' but I'm wondering if it wll also explore 'love of place' (land and sea) which culturally is a far more significant feature of Pacific life than mere romance

Unrelated note: In idle internet searching, I just found out (what some others knew back in March, 2016) that the giant, 50-foot tall crab named Tamatoa is not the main villain. Neither are the Kakamora.

Instead, the main villain appears to be a Lava Monster named 'Te Ka' -- and will have his/her/its own villain song in the movie.
