Aurek Squad: Heroes of The Rebellion [RECRUITING; OOC]

I promised a Star Wars Game, and I am here to deliver. Welcome, wonderful Beings, to the Age of Rebellion, at the Edge of The Empire, where you will meet your Force and Destiny.

We're using all 3 Core Books, is what I'm saying. As the header states, this will be using the Fantasy Flight Games Star Wars RPG system. We will be using rolls generated through here: http://angille.net/eote/

I'm looking for Six Players to make some Rebels to fight The Empire. Setting wise, the year is 1 BBY: The Battle of Yavin has not occurred yet, and therefore support for the Alliance, while growing due to a small number of victories, is still considered nigh-suicidal. Naturally, this means any Force-Sensitive Characters will need to be extremely careful with their abilities, lest you draw the eye of an Inquisitor upon you and your Squad.

As I am unsure who has what books and what not, I'd like everyone to start at least with Only The Core Books for Species, Career, and Specialization. However, I am a kindly Star Wars Fan, and so Everyone will start with 2 Specializations: 1 must be outside of your Career. The diversity will help as you folks will be a part of Aurek Squad, the newest batch of soldiers in Alliance SpecForce, meant to basically be ever idea of Special Forces in media ever. But, you know, with species that can see in the dark, remember everything, and rip the arms off of people.

And Insight, you asked me to tag you when I made this, so considered yourself tagged.

STAR WARS

Episode I
OF DARK PORTENTS

It is a period of Civil War. Following the Alliance Victory at the Battle of Turkana, the Galactic Empire has unleashed OPERATION STRIKE FEAR, purging entire worlds that have risen up in Rebellion.

In order to more effectively fight the legions of the Empire, the Alliance has created SPECFORCE: elite soldiers, pilots, saboteurs, and specialists from hundreds of different species, united in defeating the Imperial threat once and for all.

Within the TION CLUSTER, an Alliance frigate carries some of these brave souls to the Imperial world of LIANNA. Their mission is dangerous: the capture of an Imperial Moff. The soldiers have been briefed that they are to secure his safe passage offworld, so that peace may return to this Sector.

However, they have not arrived unnoticed …

I've never played Star Wars and always wanted to but don't have any of the books... yet. I can probably get my hands on them though. How quickly would you like characters?

Ah, Queenie, I should mention that if you're going to purchase the books, I'd recommend buying 1 to start: the system is 100% compatible between all 3 lines, thankfully.

Edge of The Empire is if you want to play a character centered on more of the Lawlessness of the Outer Rim: Here you have your Fringers, Bounty Hunters, Smugglers, etc., but also Colonists, Merchants, and Tech Specialists too.

Age of Rebellion is all about being a member of The Rebel Alliance, so every career centers on being a part of the fight. Still, you also have Commanders, who are more about leading their allies, or even Diplomats who try and drum up support for the Rebellion or incite people to try and overthrow the Empire

Finally, Force and Destiny is all about, well, The Force. Every career here is Force Sensitive and can build into a variety of ways, from just being very skillfully competent with only a little bit of Force Power to going full-blown Jedi, with the lightsaber and the mind tricks and everything else.

With that said, Force Sensitive Characters are Relatively Equal to their Counterparts. While The Force is a huuuuge benefit, this is a Point-Based system, so if you're spending your XP in upping your Force Powers, you're neglecting your Skills and Talents that make you better at your chosen career. The Mind Trick may be helpful, but someone with a sufficiently high Charm or Deception could probably do just as well and maybe even get a few bonuses out of it.

Granted, even a Wookiee isn't lifting and throwing a TIE Fighter, and the sneakiest assassin is still not as invisible as a fully-trained Jedi Shadow who has been putting all their points into stealth-based force powers and their talent tree. You get the idea: The Force is powerful, but at a cost to everything else. However, it can make up for what you lack.

I just realized that I also don't have the books for this game. Is there a quick start somewhere that I could download maybe?

Hm. Well, for starters there is a Free Adventure, Under A Black Sun, which the first several pages are basically a quick reference on the rules and characters, and even provides 4 Edge Of The Empire PreGenerated characters for your perusal.

Until you get books are access to the full sets, however, what you can do is tell me what you're looking to play and I can come up with an amalgamation of what that would look like. Basically a PreGen you tell me to design, and are free to customize and tweak, if you will.

THanks Jago! I'm looking around to borrow the book so I can get a feel for it for jumping in and buying it. For myself, I think I'd like to play at least a force sensitive character if not a force using character but I'm not tied to that if it doesn't work. Otherwise I'm totally open to stuff. I'll take a look at that quick start you posted and see if I have any more ideas. I certainly wouldn't want to hold anyone back with my n00bness lol :)

Force Sensitive is totally doable: in fact, EoTE and AoR have two, specific Force Sensitive Specializations (think like Archetypes) for such characters.

The one in Edge is flavored more like a Padawan in training who survived the purge 20 years ago, while the one in Age is more like Luke; someone Force Sensitive who is a member of The Alliance and just starting to come into their powers.

And of course, every character option in FaD is Force Sensitive by default, but they can be played as Jedi, members of another tradition like Matukai or the Baran Do, or even just someone who has a slight edge on everyone else, much like Luke and Rey in their first appearances

Also, trust me; you won't be holding anyone back. The system is based around its own, special dice and you're only rolling a maximum of 6 for your character's abilities and possibly a max of 5 more for difficulty. Plus I'm more than happy to go over everything in triplicate if necessary :)

Looking around on Fantasy Flight... if it'll be too hard to go force sensitive without a book I can just go scoundrel ;)
